I've always hoped he would be like Shard with better defense.

Pretty much Rasheed Wallace (without the deadly 3 point shot of course) which is what I've I've been calling him since we've drafted him. Even though we had a small sample size from him because of injury. His play style and skill-set don't scream of a guy who will be a number 1 option on a championship team. Nothing wrong with him being a 3rd option in my book.

That said…

He really didn’t show anything at Florida State, the summer league, or in 30 games in the NBA that would make me believe that he is anywhere close to being a big time offensive player. Right now, he doesn’t have the ball handling chops, nor does he have the aggressive mentality to really thrive on the offensive end of the floor. That could change, but right now it isn't there.

And that’s OK!

What I do see is essentially a Draymond Green caliber player without the playmaking skills. A super high end glue guy.

I think Issac will not only be able to hold up in switches 1 through 5, but thrive in those spots. I think he has the size, quickness and mentality to be a tremendous defensive talent. If he stays healthy, I could see him having a 10 stocks (steals + blocks) game as early as next season.

I also think he’ll be able to be a quality rebounder which is important for any Clifford team. I’m very optimistic he’ll be able to make open threes at a nice clip and stretch the floor offensively.

But I just don’t see a consistent bucket getter. At least not anytime soon.

I really don't like statistical guesses, but I think Isaac is a 10-15 PPG, 7-10 RPG, over 2 SPG, over 2 BPG with great individual and team defense guy. If he can do all that while shooting over 35% from three and 75% from the FT line, no one should be unhappy.

^^^^

And it's best not to place high expectations on him right now. He's in developmental mode. The only thing we can really bet on with Isaac right now is his potential to be an elite defender. Hopefully the rest comes along with time and practice.

Isaac is long version of Kwai Lenard in terms of his ceiling in defense. Offense wise he is a Rashaer Lewis type kind of a player, a pf who takes 3s in a 4 in 1 sets.

Right now, it is an insult to Rashard Lewis to compare Isaac's shooting abilities to his.

Yeah I don’t see the Rashard comparisons at all. People forget shard had a nasty post/mid range game too.

Agreed but you would hope to draft a number 1 option with a high lotto pick. That and he hasn’t even shown glimpses of being a 3rd option... even on a bad team. He has a lot to prove still. All I can say is that he looked good defensively before getting injured but that was a small sample size.

Short sample size but this is the closest comparison. If he can stay healthy, he’s going to really develop into a special player.

For Lewis' first two years in Orlando, he was making 220+ 3-balls a season. That was unheard of at that time at the PF slot.

Further, Lewis average way more than 100 3-balls made per season over his whole 15-year career. Including only games played, he has a career average of 1.7 made 3s a game :o

Kirilenko was an elite shot-blocker at the SF slot. He was also an above average rebounder and a competent scorer.

For Isaac i) he needs to be such more tenacious to be compared to Kirilenko. ii) Isaac can be as great a shot-blocker at the 3 as Kirilenko was, but all of us would expect Isaac to be a superior rebounder. iii) I would a smaller scoring line with something hovering around 10-12 ppg when he is a starter.

In conclusion, I like the concept of this comparison as a bench-mark for our expectation of Isaac as Magic fans.

Kirilienko arrived in nba at age of 20 and in first year averaged 11 ppg ,5 rpg, 2 bpg, 1 spg and 1 assist, being elite defender and solid offensive player from gates.

In his 3rd year he was allstar.
Him and Hakeem are still ( think ) only players in in last 30 years with at least 6 points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals in single game.

His stats went down in 5th year with Boozer's breakthrough as star ( 21 ppg ,11 rpg ) and arrival of Derron Williams and Millsap, still lasted 13 years in nba being elite shotblockers and elite at stealing balls without much gambling on passing lines ( he did, but was long enough to recover)
