so you arent sure why Orlando didnt sign him. It could very well be because of health reasons and yet you criticize them for it. You would feel better that you can pump your fist that Orlando signed Thomas, only to watch him miss 50 games next year due to his continued injury problems?

Forgive me mate but I have little to no faith in the Magic front office. As stated I'd hope his body is the reason for us not signing.

Doesn't look like it to me. The media is trying to give them an out and some are saying his health but this article does not support that. We had a conversation and moved on, and no negotiation even took place. Medicals weren't reviewed if we didn't even negotiate. Why Anez and these local radio people are pushing that is beyond me but the FO did not corroborate the story.

“We’re in a pretty good place with our financial flexibility, all things considered, but the roster is done as we sit here today,” Weltman said in an interview. “We don’t feel like there are any holes that we need to shore up. We can always get better, and we’ll always be on the lookout for ways to get better. At this point, that would come probably more in the form of a trade if we were to do anything for the remainder of the summer.”

Adding to Magic fans’ unrest about the point guard situation was a report by a basketball website that inaccurately said the team and free agent Isaiah Thomas were “negotiating a possible deal” and that “both sides” wanted to get a deal done.

Sources told the Sentinel that the Magic considered the possibility of adding Thomas and had contact with Thomas and his agent. However, the team decided ultimately not to pursue a deal. Negotiations did not take place.

In his interview with the Sentinel, Weltman strongly indicated he is comfortable having Augustin enter the upcoming season as the Magic’s starter.

Just looking at the way Weltman side stepped the question and answered by saying “ we are confident in DJ”, leads me to believe they did speak with IT camp, but did not like the medical report.

It is not like Weltman is going to let it be known publicly that the reason for no signing was the report because then he could be responsible for effectively killing any interest in IT from other teams. With all of the reports we saw, IT following the Magic and Magic players on Twitter, the evidence points to a situation where the Magic did have discussions with IT.

The new reports suggesting they never spoke to him seems more like a cover up as to not hurt IT personally. Nobody really knows except the Magic, IT, and his representatives, but that is my 2 cents.

The report does not say they did not speak. It says it did not go further and outright refutes negotiation took place. You can believe what you want but Robbins is way more credible than Kennedy or Kyler who reported the other things.

Lol! Similar to strapping on, visiting this thread has become a poor habit that needs breaking.

I agree it seems feasible that no direct negotiation for an actual contract took place. I would think the Magic would want to review the medical reports before providing an offer. This way the Magic know what they are buying. My comment was more directed at several posters who have gotten upset and have implied that the IT is a good fit for the team, but the Magic didn’t even try to land him.

I think the Magic looked into it and decided IT was an injury risk or at the very least a depleted player that they chose not to invest in. Nevertheless, as I said before, nobody knows the whole truth except for a select number in both the Magic and IT camp. I am merely trying to put the pieces together by reading multiple conflicting reports.

Sorry for the double post.

I don't remember the Gortat angle. The person sharing, to my recollection never named a player.

I still wish we would've kept Gortat though. Unless he went to an NBA Champ team, I would've rather he wasted his years with us, as he would've kept us relevant, and away from the Vooch. :'\

I have a feeling IT still hurt and the Magic aren't wanting to risk it for the money when he can just let these young dudes play and develop and get a PG via trade or draft next year.

I don't know if this would count as "negotiations" or not, but it's certainly possible that IT and his agent indicated that they were looking for a multiyear deal, and that was the deal breaker.

Pretty confident it's this. The Magic will have $26m in cap space next season, enough to go after a star FA like Kemba. I don't think they will take on more than 1 year to hurt their chances at a clear position of need. Additionally, half the league will become free agents next year so there will be lots of opportunity to get better and/or prepare for 2020.

Shutting this down for now, discussion can be continued in the FA thread (if there's any left to be had).
