It's the same roster, still not sinking in for me. They spent all season evaluating and the results of that evaluation is that no changes needed to be made. I'm in the sunken place with this team man

Sent from my [Trap Phone] using RealGM mobile app also its about to be evaluation year part 2

Seems like a slow burn rebuild which isn't such a big deal... Most likely see bigger moves occur probably in a year or two...

Small correction: when Ross and Fournier are on the court together, Ross has slotted at the SG slot.

Do you have any stats on: Augustin/Fournier/Isaac/Gordon/Vučević ?

Augustin/Fournier/Isaac/Gordon/Vucevic only registered 10 minutes together all season, but had a +15 net rating in those minutes.

Sample sizes are silly 10-20 minutes, but Isaac- Gordon combination had the worst stats of the bunch. Best was Ross with Isaac and Simmons or Fournier.

Like I said, optimism or pessimism towards the 18-19 Magic pretty much entirely comes down to two things.

1. How much or how little you feel like injuries killed the team's record.

2. How much or how little you consider Clifford to be an upgrade from Vogel.

I think No. 2 is certainly debatable. If Clifford IS an upgrade, it's likely not a significant one. One win, two wins more at absolute best.

But I don't think it's outrageous at all to say injuries were a major factor. The Magic's three best players last season were Fournier-Gordon-Vucevic and they only played 32 games together.

The Magic played to a 31 win pace in the games those three played, nothing crazy, but that's still 6 wins lost right there. Factor in the large swath of games Ross and Isaac also missed and conservatively, it feels like at least 8 wins lost to injury, if not more.

I think the injuries were the best thing to happen to us. We weren’t going to make the playoffs, probably 11th or 12th pick. Our shooting was bound to fall off at least somewhat, I’m glad we got a good pick out of it.

I've actually thought about this a lot. Let's pretend the Magic stayed relatively healthy last and won 36 games this past year.

Would Vogel have been fired?

I'm thinking he would have been fired regardless since he wasn't Weltman and Hammond's guy, but perception means a lot in the NBA.

Going from 29 wins to 36 without any significant additions would haven given off a sense of forward progression (real or not).

In terms of biggest achivments, Vogel made it to 2 ECF and Cliffort to? Playoffs ?
Still think he was bad pick for young team and guy who will retire year or two from now. Nobody wanted him before Magic sign him.

I think he would have been fired too. His schemes were really bad, and he could not leverage the defense even with a guy in Biz who I think it is safe to say, he had some influence in getting here.

Only way we know for sure is to see what Clifford brings to the table and how the rotations look compared to last year. My prediction is that we will have a better looking offense and defense, but that is just what I am guessing.

Personally the two concussions and the hip injury or Gordon I think is the singular issue that derailed the Magic season.

If the Magic make the playoffs this year it will be on the back of neither Gordon nor Vučević having a concussion. I am sure the new training staff is working VERY hard to reduce brain injuries for Magicians, given how awful (and common) they have been.

p.s. Speights being something like 60% with the long ball going in to game 20 was fun. Let's not expect that again please.

The only major move I would make is trading Vuc. I like the guy but we have 4 C's and we don't need to watch buddy ball again this season, and we desperately need Fournier scoring/shooting so he is safe.

To agree: as it stands now Birch is the current backup PF.

meh, now people view him in same tear of stars like Kemba Walker.
He averaged 17ppg in first ECF ( during regular season) and 19 ppg in playoffs on 43-33%
