Pointing out that two Hall of Fame bigs (one being arguably the best ever at his position) were able to pull it off in 1999, isn’t an endorsement of it actually working today.

That being said, this team isn’t done building and should be looking to add talented guard and wing depth with scoring prowess.

Is it a good start? Sure. However, let’s not overlook the fact that this roster is still far away from realistically competing without development and the obvious needs addressed. That’s not being “doom and gloom”, that’s being real.

I’m glad Magic fans have something to be happy about for once in the last few years with Isaac and Bamba. I’m excited for the future too and I hope Orlando can add some elite skill to match the athleticism and size that has been accrued.

Changing the topic: Young's non-defence so far is disturbing. I am currently quite glad the Magic did not make a run at him.

Back to the thought that a team must have an ace PG or ace SF to win a title, it was not so long ago that a team needed an ace SG to win a title. I think the NBA will re=find the SG slot given what it can do in winning efforts. In that I really truly believe Dončić will be a transformative player that redefines his position.

..

That’s why I believe if we somehow landed Doncic, through trade or draft position, it would have been the best case scenario. Multi positional, versatile, elite, playmakers as accomplished as him don’t come around very often. It also happened to be what this roster was missing immensely. Regardless, back to the drawing board on offense. Bamba is a great consolation.

Indeed!

Seriously, if the Magic show if "only" stifling defense can win games. The Magic is constructed to win games ugly. That will play poorly on TV, but wins are better than losses, in my opinion.

There is a beauty to exceptional defensive teams, but you're right, 85-79 wins don't play well on TV. Still it can be incredibly successful, and we may finally have the core to do it.

Payton's (heck, and Dipo) claim to fame was supposed to be defense though...that never really showed up in the NBA. Hopefully Isaac and Mo can learn that great defense can lead to great team success as well.
