Justin Patton Good Backup Target For Bamba?
With the Timberwolves most likely declining the team option on Justin Patton and Nikola Vucevic and Timofey Mozgov looking like they will be gone. How does a frontcourt of Bamba-Birch-Patton look to you guys? Patton is a good passer, 7'1 with a 7'3 wingspan and has a nice touch for a big man. He has had 3 foot surgeries so he is risky pick up. But at 21 he would fit in well with our young core and could be a sneaky pickup.

I also like Sagabe Konate with our 2nd or BKN 2nd this upcoming draft. He is a great shotblocker and we will need a backup center behind Bamba next year. Ideal scenario we draft RJ Barrett, Sagabe Konate and Shamorie Ponds next year. With Vucevic, Mozgov and Ross most likely gone.

Three foot surgeries in a little over a year... yikes. He's probably bound for the g-league for a couple years.

Did Birch get injured or something? He is a legit backup if you want a shotblocker.

I think Birch will also get a lot of looks at PF this year. And as such, a combo-big is a very valuable asset off of the bench.

I am talking about the future were we will have Bamba and Birch as our only big men. Sagabe Konate or Justin Patton would be amazing 3rd centers for us. I think Patton with his passing and jumper would be a great backup. Mo Bamba, Patton and Birch would be an amazing center rotation.

Sooo uuhhhh.. we trading AG and Isaac then? In today's NBA there is no more C or PF.. just a BIG.

Magic can go small depending on what happens with AG. They can play Isaac at the 5 and Ag at 4. They had Isaac do that a little this summer and he defended Ayton rather well.
Plus they have Mozgov sitting on the bench for 2 seasons. He is actually not that bad for a 3rd C.
Point is - the Magic need to use their roster spots wisely and address positions of weakness. They have one of the longest rosters in the league and will be able to play with 5 wings now and then if they really want to.
