The first glimmer of light the team has had for years and we’re already prepared to start finger pointing and shaming players?
Give them a break, guys.

I’ll turn it into an impromptu survey.
If anyone wants the old Dunce Cap Threads to come back, give a +1 to this comment. If you’d rather it stay in the shed, give OrlandO’s comment a +1. We’ll go with the majority.

They were a fun compliment to vest threads because we had a winning team and the board wasn't overrun with a bunch of debbie downers. Good luck opening this can of worms...
That can has never been sealed in the first place, there's nothing to open.
Bringing regular Dunce cap threads up again is a reason for small celebration, actually. Not only it symbolizes we're playing to win again, after 7 years in purgatory, but it also localizes criticism putting it into appropriate context of one particular game AND provides less subjetive aggregate data on how players/coach performed during the season for those positive/negative discussions in hindsight.
We're just a couple weeks removed from people trashing the entire roster, being all in on tanking, and labeling the atmosphere around here as "toxic." The board couldn't even handle 1 loss after a small win streak without demanding the return of dunce threads after 6.5 years without them... you know damn well we're just one more loss away from the board losing its sh¡t and taking extreme positions again. For a team that's still 6 games below .500 3/4 into the season this was a premature move.

Historically a vest can only go to a player, but the cap can go to anyone.
Coach Clifford clearly believes he earned the dunce cap.

It's not a dumb thread at all. Pretty sure we had it during the Dwight era. I think people enjoyed both Sweater and Dunce threads. You had one to celebrate and one to let off some steam.

We're a team that has a talent level that has to fight tooth and nail just to get a Playoff birth. What's the point of a dunce cap thread?

I voted AG but wish I could change it to Cliff. He messed up on Lopez AND drew up that hideous final possession that didnt even get us a shot.

If there was ever a game this thread needed to be modeled after, it would have to be Gordon's play at the end of the game.

Re: Dunce Cap of Defeat #1 Bulls 110 - Magic 109
Reflecting on this thread, something keeps bothering me. I think the trigging of this thread was not because of a loss, we've had plenty of those in the last 7+ years, but the dimming of a hope some of us been stubbornly wishing for- a playoff team. This thread causes some type of nostalgia for me. During the Dwight era, it was a staple in this forum because we knew we weren't going to have many of these. We had a balance; the sweater vest was a way to praise the players when they did well (which gave us championship aspirations
) and the dunce cap gave us an opportunity to lament over our obvious first round exist in the playoffs when they lost a regular season game. Back during those times, I believe, we all had an understanding that criticism was not an encouragement for open hostility to our players.
We do need to acknowledge that times are different, the game has drastically changed, and our team is not built like those in the Dwight era. The culture that we once had during our winning days on this forum is gone. And this thread cannot and will not work if we use it to openly degrade our players. And I understand now Orlando apprehension of opening this Pandora's box, because he's right-we'll use this to bring extreme negativity to our team. I long for a winning team, and I want this forum back to being the happy, slightly neurotic addictive place it once was. But alas here we are rooting for a 27-33 team and I don't know about you guys but I still hope to make the playoffs. We can’t go back to that era, but we can only cheer for the team we got and along the way adjust and find ways where we can vent in losses and keep our teams dignity in tack.
Tread well my fellow posters, don’t lose your anger in a loss. Remember, the players still get millions even if they lose a game.

The lowest paid Magician is Briscoe, and his salary is 19X the average American salary.

AG had some impressive blocks and solid 1-on-1 defense most of the game, but that bad foul and some missed free throws in only a 1 point defeat clearly points to him as the main reason we lost.
