I think you have to go with Dwight as the best player in team history. We should be appreciative of the rich talents we’ve had here. Shaq is clearly the best player to ever play here, but Dwight lead the best Magic team ever in ‘09. Tracy McGrady was probably the most physically gifted player, but Penny, Shaq and Dwight deserve mention there, but Tracy was just so more ahead of them.

I think Vucevic and Hedo Turkoglu deserve mentions but fall a little short of the guys previously mentioned. Hedo is responsible for a lot of signature Magic wins, so he can’t be ignored.

I think Anderson, Darrell Armstrong and Jameer Nelson carry Magic fans most popular, for long time fans at least. Hedo could make this list as well.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Knightro wrote:Shaq and McGrady were more individually dominant players, but Dwight was here 8 years and those two were only here 4 apiece. Just depends on how much you value longevity.

Just in terms of peak as a Magic player...

1. Shaq
2. TMac
3. Dwight
4. Penny

But throwing longevity into the mix...

1. Dwight
2. Shaq
3. TMac
4. Penny

Pretty accurate

If you factor in everything (especially longevity), then Dwight is #1.

Shaq, Penny, Tracy were all better overall players, but none of them played longer than 5 seasons. Dwight played eight, made it to an NBA Finals, earned all of those franchise stat records and NBA honors/awards.

Also, why would anyone mention Vince Carter?

For me it has to be Shaq, he along with Penny put a franchise that was in its infancy on the map, and is the best player to ever put on a Magic uniform. In the mid-90s there was no team more “cool” to be a fan of than the Orlando Magic. It still pains me that Shaq left, but so did everyone else, and one has to give credit where credit is due.

This baffled me as well. Joined the Magic in decline and played 1.5 seasons. Yes, he is an iconic player, but his time here was so short I think most non-Magic fans would forget he was ever here.

Might as well throw out names like Grant Hill, and perhaps to a lesser degree Patrick Ewing, Shawn Kemp, Dominique Wilkins, Mark Price, etc.

To each their own I suppose.
