2020 Edwards vs 21 Kuminga

Post#1 » by basketballRob » Sun Jun 27, 2021 6:42 pm

These two players remind me of each other, because they both don't have a conscience when it comes to taking shots. I saw in 2019 EYBL, Kuminga was shooting around 19 times a game, including 7 3 pt attempts.

If Kuminga came out last season, would he have competed for the number 1 choice?

Kuminga had roughly the same stats as Edwards did in college, except Kuminga was in the G League.

Huh? Edwards’ college stats were far superior to Kuminga’s G-League stats.

Or did I misunderstand you?

Edwards wasn't that impressive to me this year overall, but he did have a few really great games. The most alarming thing with Kuminga is that the dude is bad at shooting in every spot on the court, especially the free throw line. Edwards while still not being very efficient has always been decent at the free throw line, which to me shows he can improve and isn't a liability.

At the #5 pick in this strong class I’m very open to Kuminga and his upside. I understand that “upside” is a word many here don’t want to hear but Kuminga does offer a lot of skills to work with right here right now today.

With that said, Edwards was and is superior in what he produced on the court. He showed that in college and backed it up during his rookie year in the NBA.

He shot 402 from the field and 294 from 3, and that was a college 3.

FT%?

How about rebounds and blocks and more advanced defensive stats (keeping in mind this is a Guard vs. SF/PF)?

Edwards was very active and a supreme athlete.

Rebounding should be a strength for someone with Kuminga’s size, strength and athleticism yet it isn’t. Why?

I think Kuminga will be a SF/SG, they same as Jaylen Brown.

If you look at Jaylen Brown's college stats, you could make an argument that Kuminga's are better than him also.

I will go with you on this one. I can see this comp both numerically and as a player path.

Edwards doesn’t fit either path. You need to dive deeper into the numbers than just 2pt%.

Edwards shot a little better and got to the line more, but everything is relatively close. You also have to consider Edwards was playing against kids, and Kuminga's numbers would be better in that situation.

As young as Edwards was, he was still a couple months older than Kuminga.

Edwards by month

Feb - 16/5/3
Mar - 24/6/3
Apr - 22/5/3
May - 27/5/5

he improved a lot over the year.

I remember the first month people were saying bust, in the last month I thought he looked like a budding star.

I see what you are trying to say here, but they are just wildly different players imo. Jaylen Brown comp is a great upside for Kuminga.

But like what the Bulls did with PatWill... everyone thought it was a surprise reach.
