Potential lead ball handler in draft

Post#1 » by zaymon » Fri Jul 9, 2021 8:43 pm

Some think we need shooters and i agree, but what we really need is a ball handler who can make good decisions with the ball. I am not fully sold on Fultz especially after his injury.
This draft seems to have good number of lead ball handling prospects. I would be very dissapointed if we didnt select at least one of those players. I didnt include players who project to be great scorers but are not known for their decision making and passing.

Jalen Suggs- right now it seems it will come down to Suggs vs Barnes at 5 for us. Suggs is little behind with his manipulation of opposing defenses but makes up for it with isolation scoring. Competitor, leader, would be thrilled to have him.

Scottie Barnes- Huge upside if he ever learns how to shoot. Even without jump shot he contributes with his outstanding defense, underrated ball handling and passing. He could be part of inverted pick and rolls. I predict Toronto will draft him, they also love long, athletic prospects.

Josh Giddey- much lower floor, but as high upside as players above. Propably the best pure passer in the draft. He needs to improve his athletecism and shooting which is not that rare. I wouldnt rule out 6'8 point forward potential.

Sharife Cooper- for me he is last elite upside prospect. His ball handling and passing are exceptional. I wouldnt mind taking him at 8 if we think he is bpa. His shooting projection is not as bad as it seems with high 3 pt volume and good ft%. You strike for gold and he could be the ultimate strike in this draft. ( I project his stock to be rising soon)

I know Suggs and Barnes will most likely go sooner in the draft but Giddey and Cooper upside could be even higher.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

He is also more athletic and stronger than Young while being similar level of ball handler, passer and foul drawer. If he reworks his shot he is as close to being all star as anyone in this draft
