That is of no value to the Magic at the moment. The salary cap means very little. We should be exploring ways to increase our cap up to the tax line, but we have plenty of time and options for that.
What is valuable to the Magic is the extra year of team control of a 1st round pick. Trading back into the first is a win/win for us and a contender. I think Josh Robbins pointed this out.

Maybe i wasn't thinking about it correctly. I guess the rookie deal would count against the 15 man roster. Still fine with that, it's more about the playing time than the roster spots in my opinion.

If the Magic can flip this pick for a FA signing as a SnT deal, I think that is a great outcome for Orlando.

This ould be a SnT fo Kent Bazemore type deal. The Warriors need cheap players and Bazemore could be a good player on this roster. It's that sort of thing.

BJ Boston in mid-twenties and summer league and then G-league, we draft him in the first we get that extra year of team control, and he is going to take a while.

Of course the Magic can send him to the G-league, or any other player. But they still count to the 15-man roster slot if signed to a full contract.

There is a cap of 15 +2 players under contract, with the +2 being two-way players.

The Magic currently has 11 players under contract, until Bacon is waived. I will thus call it 10. Add three rookies, and that means there are 2 roster slots to be filled, plus 2 two-way contracts.
That only changes through trades (or not signing the rookies).

I'm letting all the FA walk and looking to take on salary for assets to fill out the roster. I want to see at least 6-7 young guys in the rotation all season next year.

Anthony, Hampton, Okeke, Bamba, WCJ, #5 & #8 must be fixtures in the rotation. We need to see who can develop. Big decisions to be made around Bamba and WCJ.

Without Bacon, who is very likely to be waived this month.

Anthony/Hampton/Fultz(IR)
Harris/Ross
Isaac/Carter-Williams
Okeke
Carter/Bamba

Add the three draft picks, and that is 13 players. Orlando only has two roster slots left. If the Magic signs Wagner, that means there is only one roster slot left (in addition to 2 "normal" two-way players).

You have this as a MLE vet. If the Magic drafts a combo-forward in Kuminga and a combo-wing in K. Johnson with the two FRPs and a big with the SRP - say Thor, then the MLE makes most sense as a wing player. How about Otto Porter ? Otherwise it is a Will Barton or Doug McDermott type player.

Your 2021/22 Orlando Magic ???
Anthony/Hampton/Fultz(IR)
Harris/Ross/Johnson
Isaac/Porter/Carter-Williams
Okeke/Kuminga/Wagner
Carter/Bamba/Thor

The Magic might be the worst shooting team in the league next year. How depressing.

If those are the end results of 5 & 8 then I'll be interested to see what Vegas has our win total at. 23 MAX. TRoss & Gary traded at ASB for more pieces and we absolutely fall off the map.
we’re going to bad next season. I think that’s a given. Unless some miracle happens nothing we do in the draft is going to drastically improve this team. We need to prepare for a bad year and another lottery pick IMO.

Yeah I don’t even know why Orlando would be concerned with signing FA’s.

Bad but not horrible. I think the over/under is 29 wins. If all works well, I can absolutely see a 34-48 record.

Obviously I hope Bacon is let go, but honestly Brazdeikis doesn't really do much for me either. He's got some craftiness to him, but I don't know if I see him ever being a guy who can consistently be efficient. But I could be wrong. He's still more interesting than Bacon, or some random scrub vet.

I like Wagner and would like to bring him back. I like that he has more to his offensive game than just spotting up. He didn't rebound particularly well with us, but he's been a better rebounder than that with the Wizards and Celtics. Fair to say that it's not necessarily a strength of his, but he's not a liability on the glass like, say, Davis Bertans.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

Id want any FA that will play actual minutes I mean shoot look at the rotation. This is assuming fultz comes back start of season or close to it
Fultz/Anthony
Harris/Hampton/Ross(for now)
Isaac
Okeke/Mo W(hopefully)
Carter/Bamba

Add two Maybe 3 draft picks to that and MCW sitting out there. Where is there any room for playing time from any vet??
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.
