I can understand the logic of making this trade idea, a 20ppg 2 guard that’s young as hell and has local ties(Montverde Academy). But, I think we have the prospect of drafting a player better than Barrett anywhere in the top 4. Regardless of our glaring need at the 2 spot, I think I’d pass on Barrett unless we do a Cole + later picks kinda deal like another poster mentioned.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Barrett has become the new Wiggins on this board. I already can't stand it.

Ochai Agbaji is better than RJ Barrett. Same age and would be locked into a long rookie deal instead of facing an extension. Pass on this trade.

Barrett is not as bad as this year's efficiency stat look, he and everyone else on the Knicks looks worse than he is offensively this year because the team has had no playmaker (Alec Burks played most of the year as the starting PG and he makes Cole look like a competent playmaker in comparison) and Thibs' offensive scheme is a joke, but he's about to get overpaid based on his raw stats and he's not worth a high draft pick even in a subpar draft.

IF we dropped to 5 and they added something (Grimes?) & (took back something (Cole, RJ?)…maybe

How about a pick swap (assuming they’re around 9-13), we get RJ, they get Cole & TRoss, we take back Evan’s bad deal (they get cap). Before you lose your minds, I don’t love Evan, it’s a money deal, but he can shoot off the bench better than TRoss.

he looks worse, but also "looks" better with a high scoring avg because of his shot volume

Man i really have to say ive come around on him
I originally discounted him because of his age (22 at the start of the season), but all the skills are there, and youd like to assume less of learning of a learning curve.

Guys like him are why i really think a guy drafted out of the top 5 could be the best player in the draft. HIm, matherin, griffin, murray, sharpe, davis, duran etc...

Id love Chet, Jabari or Ivey, but if we come away with Agbaji, i would be just as excited

I like the thought process exploration here, but still can't imagine a scenario I like.

How about Cole for Grimes though?

Any trade that doesn't trade away our First and Young Core, I'd make a trade to improve the roster. If we can hold on to Franz, Dell and Suggs, I'd do it in a heart bit

I mean i am in no way advocating trading our first for RJ Barrett, but i am not tied to our core. I really like those guys above, but the likelihood of those three plus this year's pick fitting together in terms of position, skill, and timing of contracts, is kind of slim.

I doubt this is the offseason to figure that out, but if we were blown away by an offer for the pick by a team with talent blowing it up, you would have to consider.

For instance, if Lebron were to leave the Lakers, and they just blew it up, and AD became available (even with the injury history). Or if Dame leaves Portland, and a three team deal came along with Portland looking for picks, and us getting some young talent in return (Dame going to third team). We'd have a lot of competition (OKC and their 99 picks come to mind), but worth the look.

I am still convinced Beal will be available soon. Who knows maybe a Boston or Philly need to refit if things are not working out.

What is Barrett' upside: Fournier?

I like the idea of Anthony, the Denver and the Chicago pick. But not must more than that.
