The root of Orlando's potential tampering charge against Houston, source says, is alleged meeting w/ coach Kevin McHale & Dwight Howard.

sam_amick Sam Amick
Source now says Orlando has decided against pursuing tampering charges against Houston due to lack of information. NJ possibility remains.

sam_amick Sam Amick
The Rockets have been informed that there will be no tampering charges brought against them by Orlando & were told they weren't considered.

This is all I could find on it. Someone said a meeting took place, but ORL couldn't get the info so they dropped it i guess.

Thanks, I didn't see any of this posted anywhere..

I really do hope there is no truth to this story..

Unless there is photo or video evidence, i don't know how they could prove it. i can't imagine many/any witnesses are going to want to step up since they'd all be in Prok's or Dwight's entourage.

if Dwight goes into FA next summer and NJ is no longer an option, he'll find himself very limited in terms of where he can go. will give us a much better advantage of re-signing him, and if we can keep him then we'll have a better shot at Paul/Deron if we can clear the cap space.

To me this is just a big fraud once again brought about by reporters looking to stir up trouble, or whatever.

Guys like Broussard need to be fired.

I didn't know Dwight was that desperate to leave Orlando.

First, his plan to go to LA is dashed.

So, he quickly flies to Miami to meet the Nets.

Then, gets caught on Plan B (Nets)

Now, has to report to the Magic knowing he got busted trying to exit for LA and then the Nets.

I am about Sick of Dwight because of all this and would be about willing to trade him for a bag of chips, not. But, almost feel that way. If he really wanted out of here that badly, then I have lost all respect for this guy. He is a joke.

Dwight's a class guy all the way. Just because he may have been looking at LAL and NJ first, doesn't mean he doesn't want Orlando anymore. The penalty for NJ might be to never acquire Dwight, and LAL might never be able to acquire Paul for Dwight later on either. We are getting lucky breaks here and NJ and NYK are breaking their future cap spaces too.
If we play well with our changes to the roster, then we have a terrific shot at retaining Dwight. I'm guessing from his FA plans though, that we'd have to make a good run with this team, or acquire a B List star Dwight will play well with, or make moves for cap space and flip the scripts by being the top FA destination. These are all possible scenarios though, and with good chances at that too.

What's worse for Dwight, this whole time he's been trying to be the "good guy" and put on an innocent face, yet he gets caught meeting with Prokorov and Billy King. It has truth to it, Orlando wouldn't follow through if they didn't believe he didn't meet with them.

Orlando should have the Nets give up their first round draft picks for the next five years to Orlando, and just end up trading Dwight to them anyways. I don't want Dwight in LA, but I'd love for a revamped Orlando Magic to have a chance to take him out of the players every year for the rest of his career.

If that's what Orlando wants, all they have to do is ask. NJ will gladly give up 1st round picks (can't be consecutive due to rules and what not) for Dwight.

1) Can they prove it?
2) Tampering of this kind has a pretty clear penalty, and it's weak (just a fine). Prior to the 2003 draft, way back in 2002, the Cavs "accidentally" ran into Lebron at a gym the team happened to be at, and let him participate in some 5 on 5 scrimmages with them. They were fined, but that was it. And seeing HS Lebron as the best player on the court was what finally convinced Paxson to allow a tank job that year.

Loss of picks is reserved for stuff like illegal contracts.

I wish he would just tell the truth, no more PR talk.....JUST TELL THE TRUTH!

I can accept him wanting to leave, if he'll look into a camera and tell all of us that, what I don't like is all this backdoor BULL ****
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Well, what doesn't make sense is...why do the Nets (King and Prok) need to meet with Howard?

Deron Williams has OPENLY talked about his recruitment of Dwight. If there was something the Nets needed to know about Dwight's commitment, it would (or should) have gone through Deron.

Heck, at least Lebron played out his season with Cleveland for one last shot at the title and took less money to leave.

Dwight went behind the Magics back and worked with two different teams on trades against league rules. Really noble and classy of Dwight.

Deron is allowed to talk to Dwight privately about whatever he likes. So it's not like the recruitment can't happen covertly anyway, and it's not as though meeting their owner is going to be the reason he leaves. Deron can pass on what the owner says now anyhow.

That's why it's different to illegal contracts, which actually screw the salary cap over.

Its funny because everyone hated Lebron for doing just that. Its a lose-lose, cuz any way he goes about it ppl will find a way to hate him for not making the decision they wanted.

Exactly, that's why this meeting makes no sense for the Nets. If it was true, then it is incredibly dumb/stupid/arrogant/whateverelse of them and they deserve whatever comes.

Broussard on ESPN2, Free Agency special... he's talking about Dwight

He still says Howard met with Prokhorov in Miami, even though he spoke with Howard today and he denied it... but multiple sources kept telling Chris the meeting meant down

according to ESPN Fegan admitted Dwight spoke on the phone with the Nets

"Fegan said both he and Howard have spoken by phone with the Nets but no face-to-face meeting has occurred."

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/73375 ... ersey-nets

Since its now been confirmed that Otis only gave Fegan permission this issue is not done.

Fegan definitely told several versions. First he said no meeting took place. Then they had permission. Then there is the ESPN angle that Mags is referencing. It's a lie in there for sure.
Woj is the new Bucher. Shams is the new Woj. Espn is the new TMZ. The NBA is the new WWE.
