you know we can't trade Ryan, right? we can only do a S&T AFTER he decides on a team to play for. Can't force him to Sac, lol.

Yes, that's why I said, "he's a local." May 6, 1988 (age 24) born in Sacramento, California. Toronto was a situation where he could get a lot of playing time and a lot of money.

Did you miss the part where he said we can't trade him? Dude is a restricted free agent. RYAN ANDERSON and Ryan Anderson alone, gets to decide what team he will sign with.

He's just pointing out that Ryan would CHOOSE to go to Sacramento because they have cap space and he's from there.

If the Kings have cap space, why would they give Tyreke or a draft pick to us?

To summarize, a restricted free agent essentially has five options:

He can accept his prior team's qualifying offer, play for one season, and become a free agent again the following summer.
He can accept his prior team's maximum qualifying offer (if applicable, and if one has been submitted) and play under a long-term contract at the maximum salary.
He can negotiate a new contract with his prior team that is independent of the qualifying offer or maximum qualifying offer.
He can sign an offer sheet with another team through March 1, which his prior team is given the opportunity to match.
If he doesn't sign a qualifying offer, a contract, or an offer sheet for one year, his prior team can submit a new qualifying offer (or maximum qualifying offer), and the player becomes a restricted free agent again the following offseason.

There is no rule I can find that says the player cannot negotiate a new contract that is a sign-and-trade, so long as it doesn't occur AFTER said player has signed an offer sheet with another team. It also must occur before the season starts. Said contract would be a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 4 according to the CBA.

Interesting tidbit from Steve Kyler's chat this morning:

The nets draft was not a factor for Orlando… it kind of sucks for Brooklyn as that would have been their best chip to get a Dwight Howard conversation going.

the Magic will hire a GM, then hire a coach and then sit down with Dwight Howard and map out their vision for the future of the team… they will ask him if he is in or out… if he says out, they’ll trade where they can get the best deal and that will have nothing to do with what Dwight wants.

I can tell you Houston would rent Dwight and would pay for the privilege. Hearing Washington would too.
I think a lot of new suitors will surface if the Magic put Howard on the block, not just Brooklyn.

What would they be willing to give up though?

I'm not sure how the value works out there, but the Raptors say they want proven talent, and since they're never going to make the playoffs, Ryan seems like the perfect fit there. Toronto does have the space to absorb him. We might be able to use the 8th to grab Lillard.

Let's see How do I put this........HELL YES. If a team picking 8-10 offers that pick for Ryan freaking Anderson I hope to GOD they take that deal.

That and the fact that we need athletes at the wings. A jrich, turk, Anderson fast break is more like plodding down court and take a contested three...tired of that broken down offense.

This is going to be a very interesting offseason to say the least. The endgame is to keep Dwight, but if thats not possible there are some great scenarios I think.

Washington will probably trade us some form of the number 3 pick (MGK which could be great), Rashards expiring, Jordan Crawford and Nene; taking back Hedo and Dudu?

This is why NJ will either have to wait or not get Dwight. There are PLENTY of teams that will be willing to give us something very good to rent Dwight.

Hmmm... Don't see any realistic way for Washington to get him. The salaries in most trade scenarios are really bad. They don't have anyone making serious money that is any good. They'd have to move back Nene or Rashard to get close on salaries.

Houston could give us their two picks, Lowry, Dalembert, Scola or picks Lowry, Martin for Howard. The salaries again are not good for trading there, not many options that doesn't take everything good in Houston away leaving little for Dwight to work with and little hope of doing anything with him in a year rental.

Funny how teams will 'rent' Dwight for their stuff and yet we some how find that appealing... How about we keep Dwight and enjoy the better leverage to keep him next summer. Kills a lot of fun buzz I'm sure, but damn if logic isn't a cruel bedfellow.

........That's pretty good, actually.

Any team taht takes Hedo AND Duhon deserves some consideration, imo.

Pretty solid deal. Assuming you are a rockets fan, who would you want to take back for this package?

If Dwight HAS to go, I definitely wouldn't mind this package if we are able to free up cap room. Definitely a rebuild-on-the-fly type of package.
