I don't really understand where your idea that we would have money for a max is coming from. Dwight will be a $20.5M cap hold, even if we somehow got rid of 2 years of JRich for an expiring (already leaning towards fantasy) and waived all the others we'd still have more like 10 mil in space, certainly not the 14 or so Harden is going to get
Not to mention S&Ts are ending

good luck on a max contract
we've got a whole bunch of players who could prove to be assets that we can attach liabilities to on outgoing transactions.
JRich is moveable. i struggle to believe that on his MLE sized deal, one year out from being a 20ppg player, that a team like the Wolves/Clippers/Jazz/Spurs/etc wouldn't take a chance on him for an expiring or TPE.
Nicholson, O'Quinn, Ayon and Liggins are all just some solid minutes and a couple good showings away from being coveted by other teams. if they reach that value, we can use them to attach someone like Duhon (which would require a grand sacrifice of $4.5M over 2 seasons for another team).
JJ has an expiring, and hopefully should really blossom and cause his value to peak with a starter role and starter minutes. he's another option that we can use to attach Duhon's/Q's deal to.
BBD has value now. he's shown he can hold his own against Hibbert, who's touted as one of the top 5-10 C's in the league. plus, BBD is on half his salary. i'd prefer to use him to land a bigger piece, but if we have to, we use him as the centerpiece in a deal that ships out some more bad contracts.
i won't pretend to know the deals, but let's hypothetically say we can achieve the following -
JRich to TWolves for TPE.
Ayon/O'Quinn + QRich + future first to Phoenix for TPE.
JJ + Turk to SAS for SJax
we'd be looking at:
dwight: $22mil
jameer: $8.6mil
davis: $6.4mil
Duhon: $1.5mil
Nicholson: $1.5mil
Ayon/O'Quinn: $1.5mil
cap holds for non players (x6): $3mil
= $44.5mil, which is roughly $14mil in cap space, depending on where the cap is set.
$14mil deal for Harden (whatever deal keeps us a shave under the cap)
s&t Iggy @ up to $11.5mil for Iggy, for BBD. (teams close to the cap can allow for up to $5mil discrepancy between incoming and outgoing deals, so add that allowance onto the s&t deal being offered to Iggy)
Dwight
Nicholson
Iggy
Harden
Jameer
