Sorry for the delay. These middle rounds are brutal for my nerdy side.. too many mid-tier options, and too much background researching and analyzing
I would be lying if I said I didn't grab Isaac because I'm a massive fan of his and our Magic obviously, but take a look at my projected line for him:
Jonathan Isaac44 FG%, 77 FT%, 1.3 3PM, 12.4 PPG, 7 RPG, 1.6 APG, 2.2 SPG, 2.0 BPG, 1.95 TO- There's somewhere around 2-5 players in the league who will plausibly go 1.5 SPG AND 1.5 BPG. And that's just my bottom floor for Isaac's Stocks per game! I actually predict something in line with his PER36 Stocks; which are, exactly, 2.2 SPG and 2.0 BPG.
- A 2.0 BPG (or near) would actually make Isaac one of the best blockers in the league, with the overall blocks being dampened in the past few years of small ball.
- There's about 4-7 players in the past two years who have averaged 1 3PM, 1 SPG, and 1 BPG. I think Isaac joins them this year.
- Isaac's lack of APG is balanced out very well by my drafted team so far; all my previously drafted players Assist insanely well for their positions until Isaac. But Isaac's been a great passer in college, and a very passing-oriented player, so there's some surprise potential here up to 3 APG as well imo.
- Isaac is also no slouch in contributing 7 RPG, 1.3 3PM, 1.95 TO, and 12.4 PPG (in about that order). I also think Isaac has a small chance to go above 12 PPG if he finds he's making some consistent buckets due to his height and skill. He's at that 7'0 Dirk Nowitzki length!
- I played with customized rankings with my range of projections for Isaac's stats, and Isaac was inside the top 50 most of the time.
- My fear has become less the risk of picking him 49th and more the risk of his injuries. Isaac's injury history is; sore hip for missing most of his first summer league, a right ankle sprain that saw a lot of games missed, a short return for a few games followed by a re-aggravation of his right ankle injury for another big group of games. Then a return of some games that was cut short to a left foot strain. After that return was some games that were cut short to a left ankle sprain until the end of the season. The right ankle sprain and the re-aggravation of it saw the most games missed by far last season. So far this season, he's had a very minor right ankle sprain that is already being listed as day-to-day, but this being the 2nd/3rd injury in the same spot of the body (and his 3rd/4th of both of his ankles) is a little bit scary.
