Yeah.. of all UK guards in their roster, he is the one i would bet my house on to be the nearest to a Maxey Herro type success in the league

The only Kentucky guard that will be on the board when the Magic draft is DJ Wagner. A below the rim guy, but a interesting prospect. Drafting him is drafting for future bench depth. He and Howard could rack up DNPCDs for a couple years.

We already hsve enough guards. Also, Reed is not a lotto pick. To thosr who have fetish with UK guards, he will be availble in the 20s pick

You might be alone in this assessment of the roster.

Correction then... we have enough young guards. No need to draft a rookie guard

It could be very much so that we continue to draft what we see as BPA from here but focus on development in G-League or if the product is finished ala SR in college send them in as a bench player.

I would not be surprised if we continue to highly leverage our draft picks as g-leaguing farm and make them earn playing time through that. It makes sense, even if I do not like that we spend picks on g-leaguers. This is still very common in baseball iirc.

So much so, I'd be happy actually, if the Magic trade Black and Howard for a late-20s-yo guard that can shoot the rock.

If there is ever a year to trade out of the draft, please let 2024 be that year.

Is there a rookie guard that is projected to be better than Black right now?

Which ones? I admit, except for Dilingham, and only because of his 3pt shooting, i havent really watched other guards. I was discouraged wirh my early fave Proctor so i decided to take a stepback this draft.

i guess i just dont see a great player in Black. maybe because of the way we are using him and maybe with Fultz gone next year he can take a step forward.

You have become my mortal enemy! LOL

JK

But seriously, as a very reasonable individual with measured and objective outlooks on things, how do you support disqualifying AB as a rising star?

I actually see Black as I saw Suggs his rookie year. Hyped up and massive potential college player that didnt show much during his nba 1st year but you can see he is improving and potential is still through the roof.

His measurables are elite. His defensive bbiq is up there. His body needs to be worked on admittedly like maybe 10lbs of muscle or something. He isnt shy to let fly the 3 when he is open and his form looks ok.

I like Black. I just would rather the Magic focused on getting a 40% three point shooter that takes 4+ attempts a game, even if that costs Black. If such a player can be had on the FA market: great. THe Magic has cap space to ink on for 25-30M and not break the bank when Suggs and F-Wagner get resigned.

Frankly I think the Magic can contend for a Championship next year, if the coming off-season is managed correctly.

I really have limited scouting this year, but based on where we are likely to pick, I have my eyes on Kel'el Ware and Dalton Knecht. I am also intrigued by Devin Carter to a much lesser extent but really haven't seen much of him.

Ah, the old "we can accelerate our contention timeline, lets overpay for win-now players" fallacy.

Return to Orlando Magic
