But in 10 of 12 playoff games this year, he only made 2 or less 3 pointers a game. 7 of those were 1 or 0 made. Is that really considered a "3" and D guy?

Its not that i dont like the signing but I am a little bit suprised he was our premiere choice.
I dont think Suggs/Harris did so well to earn such behaviour.
I would like to have any guard who can a least run pick and roll a little. Suggs was in 37 percentile during regular season and basically worst in the league in the playoffs.
I know he can improve but its a tall ask. Same with Black.
If we dont make any trades Cole is propably out of rotation. Not that he earned any minutes last season.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

We are still fatally flawed in our backcourt. KCP's 1.6 3PM is not resolving our shooting problem. The Magic got better, but they didn't get significantly better. We got a good player, but not a great player. We got a slight upgrade over Gary Harris (hopefully).

We upgraded Gary Harris. GREAT. But Gary Harris was a bench guy. KCP is expected to be a starter.

Jalen Suggs is now our PG. That gives me icky vibes. Especially because KCP is not a playmaker.

Disappointed after Day 1. Hoping Day 2 brings more hope.

KCP may not be the big name player you're wanting, but he's a good upgrade over Gary Harris. Very good contract that could be used as a trade asset if needed in the future as well.

I never believed in a PG upgrade (why draft Black?).

G-Harris (and Fultz) were HORRIBLE last year. Caldwell-Pope is a quantum upgrade at SG.

Point 1: Winners win. Caldwell-Pope is a winner.
Point 2: Caldwell-Pope at 22M is 1000% better than George or Thompson on 40M.

p.s. Caldwell-Pope over Simons at SG reveals the commitment the Magic has to backcourt defense.

I like his reddit nickname in response to some DEN writers saying he got exposed against Ant. And that he isnt worth his contract.

Man I love the direction the FO is heading the team. Keeping the core intact and maintaining flexibility is a good sign. I can't be happier with kcp signing

Anyone watching KCP highlights?

This guys does catch&shoot, off the dribble shoot, fastbreak 3s....

This is the kind of player who always torched us and stomped our hopes. Now we have one on our team.

Huge improvement at 4th option is what was keeping our offense down.

That can’t be true. Fultz isn’t starting.

I think KCPs biggest asset is his defense. He's bigger and better defensively than Harris was. I'd still like to keep Harris for depth at a lower price.

Hard to not be somewhat satisfied with this signing as a piece of business. Good player, great defender, good contract.

As others have said though, i dont see the fit if it pushes JS to lead nominal PG.

We needed more initiation, shooting and playmaking for our bottom-third offensive game.

KCP addresses shooting a little, albeit on low volume for a wing starter, but none of the rest. He was a 31 minute starter in Denver, so hes not going to be playing bench minutes.

Its an odd fit. Sure he's a Harris upgrade but the problem is that Suggs is our Harris upgrade.

We'll see. It all smacks a bit of Boston with White and Smart, where they realised those 2 couldnt coexist and shipped Smart out for Jrue.

In our case, neither of our starter guards have near the PG skill levels of White & Smart, so in theory we should struggle.

Lets see how the rest of the re-tool goes. For now it looks elite defensively but v clunky on the O side.

I really think if we are to make any MAJOR improvements, that would suffice most of this board, that it would be coming in the form of trade.

This is as close to "doubling down" on your draft as well get.

KCP is the role player a championship team needs while simultaneously can be moved to the bench if either Jett or AB pan out. Next year the starting rotation at a glance is looking like

PG Suggs
SG KCP
C WCJ (I would like to see our remaining dollars spent here)
SF Franz
PF Paolo

We instantly become a better team then last year IMHO. Also nobody here is saying Suggs is "the PG" at the same time, Paolo - Franz are our ball dominant offensive forwards. ABCA seems to be in a position to be the G bench rotation.

I also see us resigning Ingles.

Agreed, there was never a free agency signing that was going to fix the Magic back court.

In '23 the starting backcourt was Fultz/Harris
In '25 the starting backcourt will be Suggs/KCP

Weltman blew that damn backcourt up and now we are sitting pretty for a few more years until AB takes KCP's spot.

We are seeing the usual "double down" on draft assets by this signing I think. I'm not saying I love or hate that. As someone who constantly saw Black vs Fultz as a Black wins debate.

The debate resets in FA though where you can legitimately sign someone better. In theory, Black has no business starting now. Yet, if we don't resign Mr Harris I would assume Black + Cole Anthony or ABCA is our bench G rotation.

Realistically speaking. It depends on the leap or lack of AB takes. He could have a starting spot as early as game 1 this season and as late as never. Either way KCP is a realistic floor for AB IMHO. So we can see if AB can overtake him.

My hope is AB overtakes him overall. But we need to keep in mind that Franz / Paolo / Cole Anthony are high ball usage guys. So AB may need to become Joe Ingles part 2 if he is to develop a spot on this roster.

Which makes me think we are keeping Ingles.
