Before I vote, is there some sort of consensus on how far up you could trade up in the draft using our 2 pics + 2nd rounders if necessary?

Depends on who falls and who is willing, but around pick 10ish I would imagine is close to fair value. Give or take 1 slot in either direction.

I'm starting to think we keep the 25th pick so we can trade the Phoenix pick next season. If we trade both picks this season, then we couldn't trade the Phoenix pick.

I don't believe that is accurate.

Any 2026 picks the Magic have become tradable immediately following the 2025 draft.

You can't trade first round picks in back-to-back drafts before the draft, but once that year's draft is over and done with, the next year's firsts are up for grabs.

It doesnt work like that, we can trade both picks on draft day and from the 27th Jun 2025, we are able to trade the Phoenix pick

My point: O'Neale is as good as it gets in trading with Milwaukee and Phoenix. There is just nothing there on either roster Orlando would want.

I'd take Portis over any of our bigs (excluding Paolo)...He could replace 2 of them and he's on a reasonable deal and it's a player option. Trade and extend...just a super tough, super versatile banger who can shoot 3s. MIL might value a pick and an okay player over Portis, depending on their overall direction this summer. Will be hard to do anything around Giannis with Dame's giant deal sitting in street clothes...and Kuzma has been a disappointment in what should have been a great role for him.

Portis will be a free agent. He is virtually certain to decline is player option.

Not many teams have a full mle to offer him. We could offer him $15m in a sign and trade and give them Goga, Jett, and Cory. They said they would accept Goga and Jett for him on the Bucks board.

The only reason I would want Portis here is so he won't go off on us every time we face MIL. lol

Magic don't have either.

Magic's full MLE is just theoretical.

In order to actually have full MLE Magic would have to stay below first Apron ( $195M)

Magic today without:
Moe Wagner - $11M
G.Harris - $7,5M
Joesph - $3,5M
Houstan - $2,1M
16th overall pick- $3,7M
25th pick - $2,5M

They still have $175,9M in books.

Even without G. Harris and Houstan that's team over first apron.

One of restrictions from First Apron, aside from preventing you from using full MLE is inability to make sign&trades if such deal takes you (or holds you) over first apron. Basically, Magic would have to wave off all players above including one of first round picks, to create enough pocket for MLE worth $14,3M to not go over first apron.

I also think ( but i'm not 100% sure) that in moment Portis declines player option, he becomes UFA and whole "sign& trade " option ends, I also don't know what's Bucks salary situation, because if they are at second, they can't even get players in sign & trade back, rather just TPE ( money pockets for salary relief).

This year's FA will be dictated by: Hornets, Nets, Pistons and above everybody else, Spurs who are gearing into win now mode.
Magic are in top 10 among teams with most salary tied into contracts.

Anyway, there is whole bunch of talk about FA. Boys, girls, those days are gone. Your only path away from this mess are trades.
And spoiler alert, you won't get much for Carter no matter how little salary cap he takes.

Eric talked how cheap Carter is. Carter averaged 9 ppg on 7 rpg & 54% TS on $12M.
Yvess Missi averaged 9 ppg, 8 rpg on 57% TS and $3M. As a rookie.
Karlo Matkovic on same team with Missi averaged 8 ppg and 5 rpg & 64% TS. on 1,4M. As a rookie.

Carter simply isn't good value.

Magic's trade assets are: picks, Black, expiring money. In that order. You are not getting 20 ppg scorer for Carter and 25th pick, just forget about it.

And-1

Was gonna wite the same response, as - and PBO Weltman made this point crystal clear - the Magic can only get better through the trade market. This team has zero money for anything but its rookies and LLE guys to fill out the roster.

Don't be surprised if the Magic make a trade like Isaac and the Denver pick for the Nets 2029 SRP. Orlando must shed salary.
