My bad, I was thinking first round only. I cant see our second round pick making the team based on its current construction. Have to be some trades and players getting released.

Like Kyle O'Quinn not making the team?

Under Otis, it was given that 2nd round talent meant nothing. With Rob, Scott, & Matt, there's actually a chance to find someone worth a damn.

Sign me up for Nick Calathes, I don't think he's gonna have the impact of Chandler but he will be a good player in this league. How's his athleticism? It's been years since I last saw him play.

I agree entirely with you. however as the roster is currently constructed I cannot see how the second round pick will fit. IMO they pull a San Antonio and pick a young player to leave over seas.

Vets (still to be determined what to do with them)
1. Nelson
2. Afflalo
3. BBD
4. Harrington
5. Turk

Second/Third year players
6. Harris
7. Harkless
8. Lamb
9. Vuc
10. Moore
11. Nicholson
12. O'Quinn
13. Jones

Rookie(s)
14. #2 Pick
15. #51 Pick
16. a undrafted free agent (like Jones)

Trade Exceptions
17. McRoberts
18. Ayon
19. Howard

If you assume we trade or cut Harrington and Hedo, that brings the roster down to 13 players considering our second round pick. Then assume we use the trade exceptions in some form, that brings the roster back up to 16 players. This is not considering the possibility to find a undrafted GEM like we did Jones.

So IMO you draft a player that is overseas and develop them there. There is not room on the roster under its current construction. Rob likes to find a potential hidden GEM in the undrafted player pool. I would much rather find that player and sign him and put our 51st pick over seas.

Drafting a player like Augusto Lima from Brazil makes a lot of sense. remember, Gortat was the LAST player chosen by the Suns then his rights traded to us. It is not a bad plan by any stretch given how the roster is currently constructed.

From the highlight vids I've been watching he seems quick and explosive. Nice and strong as well.

It'd be almost like picking up a seasoned/better shooting version of MCW

And this would be the reason the Mavs will not just freely cut him.

I didn't expect them to just cut him obviously lol. But, we do have that huge TPE that COULD be put to use in nabbing their 13th pick+us take a huge contract on via the TPE+rights to Calathes?

I'd give them AA+filler for Marions contract+13th pick+rights to Calathes. ****, I'd even entertain throwing in Jameer to give them a PG when they DON'T sign CP3 or Dwill/whoever they are reaching for.

Could give us

Nick Calathes/
McLemore/Harkless
Harkless/Marion/Harris
Harris/Dieng?
Vucci/KOquinn

I dont disagree at all, and would be all for that trade. Still in that scenario, we would have to cut or trade current players to allow Calathes and the #13 pick to be on our opening night roster.

Show me any highlights were he is PASSING. Everything I have ever seen from Calathes is he plays off the ball in the Euro league and is a catch and shoot of drive and shoot type of player. I.e. a ball chucker like at Florida. He did not have PG skills at Florida (and I am a Gator btw). I can't imagine he has changed that much and is a play maker, which this team would need at the PG position. He is a less athletic version of E. Moore.

Thanks in no small part to the leadership of Calathes, Lokomotiv has a chance to lift its first international trophy when it faces Uxue Bilbao Basket of Spain in the title game. Calathes set a Eurocup record by becoming the first player to dish more than 100 assists in one season during the competition's 11-year existence. In addition, ranked second on Lokomotiv in scoring, rebounds, steals and fouls drawn.

Most assists in 11 years doesn't seem to me like he is a off the ball chucker.

Don't have much time to look for vids but I can post some when I get a minute!

[Chad Ford] he describes Orlando as "really interested" in Burke and "showing significant interest" in Carter-Williams.

Aight', for all those hating on still being terrible in '14. Just look at this. I'm not saying you should ever try to tank purposefully, but being terrible next year could be a real asset. This is pure class by Wiggins.

i'm dreaming of us getting Oladipo & Burke in the draft. Would be just as happy with Schoeder or MCW (he's growing on me).

I can't speak to how he is now but I know for a few years there (and probably why he dropped off the NBA radar) he was doing nothing but playing online poker. Maybe he got his act together and realized he needed to play well to have a future in basketball (heard that he barely practiced and was basically going through the motions to get a paycheck).

So I'd be hesitant just because of his history and work ethic.

sorry a bit late to this, but Nick was an outstanding passer at UF.
here is a bit from his bio:
He was a First Team All-SEC player in 2009, as he was the only player in the nation to average better than 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game. Calathes broke the Florida school records for assists and assists per game in each of his first two years, totaling 221 as a freshman (6.1 assists per game), and 231 (6.4 assists per game) as a sophomore. He ranked third in Florida school history in career assists after just two years. He was the SEC Newcomer of the Year and the SEC co-Freshman of the Year in 2008, as he led Florida in scoring and assists.

sucks to hear. Not sure how he is now but coming off being named the MVP of the league he's in I'm sure he's had to have gotten his act together to improve more upon his already impressive statline.

12.9 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 6.7 APG while nabbing the MVP impresses me coming from

8.0 PPG, 2.3 RPG and 3.0 APG in 2011-2012

there was a reason it took him and Parsons to move on in order for UF to win back to back. Calathes was not the team player his stats may otherwise indicate.

Calathes and Parsons didn't play at UF until 07-08 the year after the Gator's back to back championships and the year after guys like Brewer, Horford, Noah, Richard and Green left for the NBA. Its no wonder they couldn't win
