He does admit discussions. But, I don't think the Magic are going to jump the gun on any trades until Anthony eliminates the Magic as a destination. Why risk a trade on Arenas when they could get Melo unless it is a straight up Lewis for Arenas deal.

And where does Rashard end up in this equation?

I specifically left out Rashard because he'll just be sent home.

That ESPN is a joke when it comes to news? They'd rather focus more on sucking up to Lebron & the Heat than have timely news about non-Heat teams.

The way I see it.

Rashard for Gil/Thornton. Why for Orlando? Rashard doesn't do anything anymore. Can't make threes, can't play defense, can't rebound and can't drive to the hoop. Gil this year is deferring to teammates and kind of shying away from the limelight there. Doing so he still averages 17/6. There is nothing wrong with that. He is only about to be 29, he's finally in good shape and seems to have all his ducks in a row. Thronton to me is a sleeper. He increases our depth tremendously.

Why for Washington? Plain and simple, one less year of a huge contract on the books makes the owner a happy man.

What I really like about that trade the most is the fact we keep Vince and Gortat. Package of Vince/Gortat/2 firsts in a three team trade for Carmelo would/could be possible.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=27jva5t

That would put this team with a roster of

Nelson/Williams/Duhon
Arenas/JJ/Pietrus
Melo/Richardson/Thornton
Bass/Anderson/Allen
Dwight/Pryzbilla

We could swing a simple seperate deal to get a big man by trading Pietrus or Richardson to loosen up the log jam at SG/SF or even use a PG since we would have 4 on the roster.

Lots of things can happen if Rashard is the one sent instead of Vince..That was the point of my post before I started typing..Now I'm stuck in pipedreamville.

Arenas update: Van Gundy, #Magic ownership have reservations about taking on Gil and his contract. #NBA #Wizards #Suns http://bit.ly/hlYGzM

from that link:

But according to a person familiar with the situation, Smith faces two significant obstacles in bringing Arenas to Orlando. The first is Magic coach Stan Van Gundy, who has told friends he is extremely reluctant to add Arenas to the roster. The second, and even more important impediment, is Orlando ownership, which has serious reservations about absorbing Arenas' contract. Arenas has one more year left than Lewis and two more than Carter -- essentially three more with Carter's partial guarantee in 2013-14. Turkoglu's contract could ease some of that pain, as the Turkish star agreed to accept a reduced guarantee in '13-'14 as part of his trade from Toronto to Phoenix.

Both smart.

Not really in favor of his play on this team nor his contact.

No, meaning that they wait for every other news branch to make a report so they can blame it on them when the deal never happens. Just means that its out there.

Al Thornton is wayyy better than a third stringer.

tiderulz wrote:so you include his suspension as part of his injuries?

And he is more of a PG than Nelson, especially considering that he averages more apg than Nelson and he has never had a dominant inside player to play with like Howard.

You have never heard me hate on Nelson for being a "chucker". But he isnt a great ball distributor and his game is more SG in a small PG's body. I get it, you hate Arenas. But your information is flawed on him too.

Sorry, I thought he was injured before he got suspended. Whatever. His mental retardation could be considered an injury to the brain though :D

And 4.8apg with 2.1 TOs is better than 5.6apg and 3.3 TOs. Also, Nelson is more efficient shooter and takes less shots.

As far as never playing with a dominant inside player.....we said the exact same thing about Carter. "He'll be even better with Dwight Howard!" No, no, he actually got much worse with Dwight Howard. People blame age...but that is bogus. Carter isn't the freak athlete he once was, but he is still friggin athletic. The problem is he didn't fit with dwight because Carter needs the ball and shots, same as Arenas. Different player, same problem. I figure Melo might be a similar problem, but he is more reputable than these players, and more assertive, so we'd probably let him play the way he usually plays.
