Around 3:51, I think he really explains his strong points, one being he has championship experience and he knows what it takes to win. "I know what it looks like and I know what it takes...I've seen the best do it"

Either someone voted to thank him for tanking the Magic for the foreseeable future or Otis thought nobody would notice if he gave himself a 3rd place vote

man i have a bad feeling about this....i can't shake the feeling like both Otis and Stan will still be here.....it would seriously piss me off if it happens.....This year has proven that things are just volatile between Otis/Stan/Dwight.....we need the etch-a-sketch shake erase on this.......clean slate......We need a Gm that actually takes the Draft seriously.....We need a coach that won't choose veterans over bonafide talent.....

This is strictly out of curiousity, but who is available that can coach big men and do a semi good job with them? Do we know if Clifford Ray is still coaching?

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXIII: Offseason Editio
Interesting thought: if Miami Heat fails to win both this AND next season, what are the chances that one or more of the big three doesn't pick up his player option? They all signed 3+2 year contracts, last two years being player option.
Add them to a already strong FA class and that would make 2013 a helluva offseason to have a cap space for a max contract.

I don't believe Cliff Ray is coaching anywhere, at the moment. He'd be my pick for replacement assistant coach if we lose Ewing.
Of course I'd want the Dream, but he's not coaching any time soon. However, if Dwight ended up being sent to Houston and stayed there long-term, I think he'd go coach Dwight.

He was hired by the Kings this year.

News has leaked that the Magic have already begun to look for a new general manager and that Smith will be fired in a few days, presumably along with head coach Stan Van Gundy. As for Howard, the star is apparently very upset with the Magic and wants out. At this point the Magic’s approach is to clean house and begin all over again. Former New York Knicks general manager Donnie Walsh, and Indiana Pacers general manager David Morway are two names to keep an eye on for the new Magic position.
As for Van Gundy, and who his replacement will be, it is unclear now who the Magic are targeting. Van Gundy is a very good coach and I’m not too certain that a lot of great upgrades out there. One name who will be floatedaround quite heavily after the presumed firing of Van Gundy, is former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson. Members close to Howard’s camp have made it known that Howard would love Jackson in Orlando, and it just may be the sort of thing that will keep him from jumping ship.
Jackson wants back into the NBA and bringing him in could be the only logical option for the Magic to keep Howard, and keep him happy. Whoever is brought in to take over this seemingly sinking ship will more than likely do everything in their power to lure Jackson to Orlando, that is if he’s even interested in Orlando. It seems as though Howard’s heart is not in Orlando, and I think, regardless of coach, he simply wants out to start fresh somewhere else.

Jackson isn't going to turn Howard + scrubs into a championship team and he knows it. I am still hearing that Otis is gone today, it seems like the time to announced it has past, maybe it is just a formality now. But word is he is the only one keeping SVG in Orlando, and once gone, Stan is toast.

...snip...
Here are the reasons why I know this:
The Derrick Rose injury and elongated recovery time (8-12 months) has essentially eliminated the Bulls from contention. Aside from Rose, Luol Deng will probably miss a portion of next season after he has surgery on his left wrist.
Good luck to Chicago, which is over the salary cap, relying on Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer, Taj Gibson and CJ Watson for a majority of the season to remain a championship caliber team.

I just think it's unrealistic to expect bounce back years from all of our over-the-hill vets.

I agree. Hedo is a negative at the 3, and in fact our entire rotation there was weak all year, and things are only slightly better at the 1. With Nelson opting out things could theoretically get even worse at the 1, and if we lose Anderson our big rotation goes to the crapper.
