I agree. Hedo is a negative at the 3, and in fact our entire rotation there was weak all year, and things are only slightly better at the 1. With Nelson opting out things could theoretically get even worse at the 1, and if we lose Anderson our big rotation goes to the crapper.

Exactly.

It'd be nice for all of those scenarios that he mentioned to happen, but our current roster wouldn't be able to take advantage of it.

News has leaked that the Magic have already begun to look for a new general manager and that Smith will be fired in a few days, presumably along with head coach Stan Van Gundy. As for Howard, the star is apparently very upset with the Magic and wants out. At this point the Magic’s approach is to clean house and begin all over again. Former New York Knicks general manager Donnie Walsh, and Indiana Pacers general manager David Morway are two names to keep an eye on for the new Magic position.

As for Van Gundy, and who his replacement will be, it is unclear now who the Magic are targeting. Van Gundy is a very good coach and I’m not too certain that a lot of great upgrades out there. One name who will be floatedaround quite heavily after the presumed firing of Van Gundy, is former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson. Members close to Howard’s camp have made it known that Howard would love Jackson in Orlando, and it just may be the sort of thing that will keep him from jumping ship.

Jackson wants back into the NBA and bringing him in could be the only logical option for the Magic to keep Howard, and keep him happy. Whoever is brought in to take over this seemingly sinking ship will more than likely do everything in their power to lure Jackson to Orlando, that is if he’s even interested in Orlando. It seems as though Howard’s heart is not in Orlando, and I think, regardless of coach, he simply wants out to start fresh somewhere else.

Never heard of that website.

pure speculation on their part about dwight. i have heard dwight's first choice is winning a title in orlando.

...snip...

Here are the reasons why I know this:

The Derrick Rose injury and elongated recovery time (8-12 months) has essentially eliminated the Bulls from contention. Aside from Rose, Luol Deng will probably miss a portion of next season after he has surgery on his left wrist.

Good luck to Chicago, which is over the salary cap, relying on Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer, Taj Gibson and CJ Watson for a majority of the season to remain a championship caliber team.

Click the link to read the rest of his analysis. He makes some good points imo.

very optimistic to think that this team, without changes, could make noise next season.

but, he made the point that KG will be available this summer, and THAT makes me wonder about the idea of clearing house on Turk + JRich + Duhon (using JJ and Anderson to do so), and bringing in a few ring chasing vets such as Nash, KG and Allen on one year deals...

Dwight
KG/Davis
Clark
Allen/Liggins
Nash

you think those guys would consider making one last run on a combined effort, behind Dwight doing the grunt work? meanwhile it could keep us in a position to have cap space in the offseason and still retool.

Dwight gets the change in culture he wants, still remains the prominent star, but has some real leadership on the court in KG.

I would rather trade everyone and build around chris duhon than to watch this prick wear a magic uniform.

Evan Dunlap ‏@BQRMagic
Report: ORL would have sent D12 to HOU had he not waived ETO. Rox expected to resume trade pursuit this summer http://sbn.to/KgNGjn

The rebuilding Houston Rockets remain in the hunt for a superstar and are prepared to make a lucrative trade offer for one, with Orlando Magic All-Star center Dwight Howard at or near the top of their wishlist, reports ClutchFans.net. Indeed, Houston was close to landing Howard from the Magic at the 2012 NBA trading deadline: ClutchFans reports Daryl Morey, Houston's General Manager, "was the last one standing in the Howard chase." Further, in the lead-up to the March 15th deadline, Rockets management "believed they were going to land Howard later that day."

Orlando elected not to trade Howard, but only because he agreed to waive the Early Termination Option in his contract. The ETO would have enabled him to become a free agent on July 1st, 2012, but after waiving it, he won't enter free agency until one year later. Had Howard not waived his ETO, ClutchFans reports, he would have indeed become a Houston Rocket.

Houston is still interested in Howard, even only as a so-called "rental." Most teams would only trade for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year with assurances that he'd sign a long-term contract extension with the club, but the Rockets appear to be willing to take a risk with Howard by acquiring him with just one season left before free agency.

As ClutchFans notes, the Rockets have a stable of assets--"cap room, two first-round draft picks and a willingness to trade just about anyone"--that could intrigue the Magic, or any team looking to divest itself of a superstar in order to begin rebuilding.

I think the Rockets understand how this game works. I think they've been around the block long enough to know that you need a real horse in the NBA to be a real contender. They know that if they get one, Dwight, they can play a season with him, but then have cap room to go out and attract whoever they want in 2013 to play next to Dwight (JSMoove, Monta) and build a contender. And if Dwight bolts, so be it. They'll enter rebuild anyway since they've struggled to reach the playoffs every year anyway. But they'll have leverage in that they can pay him the most and they have a great opportunity to build around the best center in the league, which isn't really that hard to do, a good coach in Kevin McHale (one of the greatest big men of all time), and his good buddy CLee there to play next to him.

I wish our front office had this mentality and understood that we aren't winning anything without Dwight anytime soon. Role players don't win championships.

I wish people would stop making it seem like not trading him is the worst idea in the world, I mean, with that cap room you could sign somebody better than you could get for him, while possibly having the chance to keep dwight anyway

Somebody has to ask it.

Do you think Otis and/or SVG will fired before we hit part 24?

+1
Giving a long term deal to Brook Lopez and acquiring Marshon Brooks isn't any better than losing Dwight for nothing

Problem is they're all connected to Dwight. We're "evaluating" because of this whole Dwight situation. It's sad really, it takes all this mess for us to just consider changing what hasn't worked. . .

Nah, the name Supersonics belongs to Seattle, so if they get a new team, thats how it will be called.

I hope New Orleans becomes Seattle Supersonics and Charlotte changes their name to Hornets.

Return to Orlando Magic
