Honestly, I haven't watched him all that much.
I haven't heard too many people being high on him, I don't think he'll get max.

Seems like every undesirable contract we have has killed any trade value it ever had. Big Baby, Al Harrington, and Hedo Turkoglu.

Well, we traded for Harrington when he was injured, so it's not completely impossible for us to move BBD or Al. Can you trade suspended players?

Yes, under the New CBA a suspended player can be traded.

I'm sure teams are lining up to make offers for Turk at this point. Over paid, under productive, injured, and suspended. If he would only throw a tantrum and choke the coach, he'd be every GM's dream!

Suspended means we don't have to pay him? We could save that money and add the Harrignton insurance.

You're missing the point. Turks contract is only partially guaranteed. So a team like Golden State could trade Beans for Turk and save about 12 million.

What is this obsession with "saving" money? RDV clearly doesnt really care about money at this stage in his career. We are paying people over $70 million not to play/work/coach/GM for us. Unless it helps our salary cap, I don't think it really matters.

He has higher value now than before, Turkoglu with 20 games you don't have to pay him > Turkoglu that must be paid for every game.

I don't know about the rules in the current CBA, but typically in most sports a suspended player's salary will get paid to charity. Otherwise, ownership and the league would have an unfair incentive to suspended players.

Exactly. He basically forfeits the rest of the year's salary (not quite, but almost)....and then a team can buy him out for $6mil this summer. If they wanted to, they could unload a bunch of contracts to us for basically the price of $6mil....but getting all of those contracts off their cap. Could get interesting now. Hell, we could even throw in the $3mil to make it easy for them.

In the end owning a basketball team is business; every penny counts. We lost our most marketable player, probably will lose the revenue from the playoffs, and a lower attendance. After enduring the tenure of splurging I think saving money is welcomed.

Our attendance is only down a little, we're still 14th in the league. Also, RDV does not run this team anymore, Dan Devos does.

Yes, but this is the same thing as saying basically that Michael Jordan shouldn't ever go gamble on a hole of golf where he is an underdog because it means he is losing money. To people worth $6billion, a few extra million when you're on your last leg of life really doesn't matter that much. When I say RDV, I basically mean the Devos family, but RDV's only real goal at this point in his life, imo, is to win a title. Of course if he can save a bit here and there he wouldn't mind but it's CLEARLY not to objective. He has never run this team to save money, thankfully. I believe I read that even during our Finals year or somewhere around there, that we actually lost a few million dollars or something because of our payroll? Nothing about this team and how it is run has ever screamed "save me a few million, GM, quick!"

Edit: Sorry, quoted the wrong person....meant to quote the person above.

The problem most people have when evaluating these situation is that fans see these teams as investments when they are actually just trophies for the owners to show off how rich they are. No one buys a team to turn a profit. I'm sure they know these team should be profitable, but they mostly buy these teams for the same reason a rich guy buys a piece of art. They've already made their money through shrewd decision making. Now it's time to have fun and try to win. Saving 6 million here or there isn't the goal for these billionaires.
