Haha. What's the cutoff point in the draft for where a player can be called a "bust" as opposed to "just some guy in the middle of the first round who didn't work out"?

Not sure the 10th pick (or really the 12th pick if the 76ers weren't being so snippy) has as much to live up to as "the next Kobe Bryant."

I don't know if it really happened or not, but that's what I heard and passed it along. Personally seems a lil odd for an agent to let his player go one on one vs another player, but the fact Oladipo and him are friends might mean they just played one on one for fun.

Anyways, the source inside the Magic said Oladipo and Exum played one on one, and Exum looked completely over matched. I don't know if Oladipo played Payton, but that would be interesting to find out if he did and if he did well is that why we drafted him instead of Exum.

that's still not really a good reason not to draft a guy though. Oladipo is four year older than exum, he should dominate him.

he's 3 years and a few days older...a single one on one is not enough to not draft a player, Magic's brain trust is clearly analytical and methodical...if that did happen it would just be one of the reasons - not the reason.

Frankly, I've seen every one of both summer league games and I like Gordon better and can see why Hennigan chose him- more versatile, his frame looks like it will be more durable, and his relentless defense.

From fan distance (with only what was on the screen), there was an intensity level in Gordon (at 18) that Exum (at 19) just didn't show in summer league - like he was too cool for it or a body language that read "i'm already a star and don't need to try as hard as the rest of these chumps"....kind of makes me think of Melo - a really good player but thus far he hasn't shown a voracious hunger to win like you see in the great ones...

The hype definitely inflated his ego so I could see some of that going on. Thats what happens when you hype a kid up for no apparent reason other than "hey may be a superstar one day"

I wouldn't be surprised if Payton ends up better than Exum in the end.

Payton will be better than Exum. Exum is no Anfernee Hardaway...not even close.

Anfernee Hardaway was incredible while at Memphis. Exum has played against high school boys who can't jump more than 4" high and are slow.

I'm not going to be surprised when Payton ends up better than Princess Exum.

The Spanish team was equivalent to a D League team, at best

This thread is going to have some gems in 3 years. Exum will be judged way too early, but when he catches up and enters the prime of his career, some of these doubters/critics will be hiding or be too embarrassed to still be posting here.

The funniest thing is some of the same people praising Henny for the Payton pick are bashing Henny for the Gordon pick.

I always trusted and voiced that Hennigan would make a better / more informed decision than I or any other fan could make and was thrilled with him picking Gordon. This does not mean that Exum will be a bust...my point was that Hennigan's strategy and draft decisions look clearer after summer league.

Hennigan chose the better players both at 4 and at 12..period. Exum plays for Utah so I could give a rats ass what he turns into.

Right now he looks like a gased chump and so do the people who thought playing against much inferior talent wouldnt matter.

That doesnt mean he'll be a bust but the dude played against high school scrubs and had 3 good games against international scrubs while getting waxed by marcus smart. Saw this coming from a mile away.
