A lot of teams have a “win now” mentality, but is there such a thing when that concept may well jeopardize your future?
The future is huge. Generally speaking, you should know the shelf life of a NBA player. You should know when when players tend to peak or when they tend to decline. You should know where you’re at as an organization, as in do you have the building pieces to consider yourself a championship contender

POB: Doc
GM:Weaver/Lindsey
HC:Shaw
I'm down with bringing kg in on a low 2 year deal. If they were to bring doc in why not make him the HC? He doesn't have experience in a front office role I don't understand the infatuation with bringing him into that role instead of coaching the team.
Completely agree. I don't get it either.
HoopsHype: You worked with Hakeem Olajuwon last summer. You’re going to do that again?
Dwight Howard: I will work with Michael Jordan (laughs). I will continue working with Hakeem on my offensive game but also a shooting specialist to improve my free throw percentage. I will also work with Hedo Turkoglu, Doc Rivers and Rajon Rondo because I want to become a better passer. I also want to work with LeBron. (laughs)

+1..although otis had the right idea imo, and I think someone mentioned this on these boards before, he tried to build a contender too fast. We should've let the 2 years following the drafting of Howard to play out and get a couple of more high draft picks at least. Now its too late to do that so my hope is, if they go with lindsey, that he can build a contender.
Tbh, although he's worked for such a well run organization, the team is still in cap hell sorta, and we still don't have very attractive tradeable assets. So he may need this year and next to improve significantly so hopefully our fickle fan base and Dwight are prepared to be patient.

Here's 3 things holding him back...
Gery Woelfel @GeryWoelfel
I'm hearing Tom Penn is legit GM candidate for Orlando.

Agreed...

For those who don’t know, Troy is the man credited for recruiting Carmelo Anthony to Syracuse for that one year National Championship run.
MT: A good indicator is seeing how the guys interact in the lay up line. Your team seems to be very loose and having fun. That’s good to see.
Your path through basketball. Played in college one year. Where did you see it going subsequently?
TW: “Well…I always knew I wanted to be a coach-even when I was in high school. I love coaching and working with young people. I knew I wasn’t going to be a pro, so just turned my energies into coaching local boys and girls clubs. It took off after that and ended up coaching at the University of Pittsburgh. Had a great ride at Pittsburgh. Then I went to Syracuse which landed me here in the NBA by way of Utah. I’m very fortunate to be working with the right people and also be on the right track.”
MT: What is your goal?
TW: “To be a general manager. I want to see if the experiences and ideas I have can mesh with a staff, a team on the floor and see if it will work. I like team building. That would be an awesome challenge for me”
MT: There are thousands of assistant coaches. How do you get noticed?
TW: “I always believe you will get noticed by doing a good job wherever you are. A lot of guys like to politic and go out and meet everybody. I just believe the job I have is the best job. If I can do the best job there, that will open up other doors. I wanted to be the best coach I could at Syracuse, New Mexico and Pittsburgh. That afforded me some other opportunities.”
