Nobody cares.
Nobody cares that someone we drafted is turning out to be a pretty good player and will most likely end up better than the guy we traded him (plus a first round and second round pick) for?
Then why are we here?
Because it never would of made sense to draft him. We didn't need a 4th SF/PF when we already had Harris, Harkless and Gordon who had just been picked 8 picks earlier. We had a glaring need at PG with zero prospects at the position. Also we gave up basically a 2nd round pick or 2, not a 1st because of the crazy protections that needed the super tanking D-League Sixers making the playoffs which would never happen.
1. We knew he wasn't coming immediately. There was never going to be a logjam.
2. We also knew we had no desire to keep Harkless. He was traded for a 2nd rounder.
3. Gordon wasn't a SF in college and isn't one now. Making draft decision based on a postion you project a guy
could play is a bit foolish.
4. You should never expect to draft a a starter at 12. The late lottery is where you get guys who can be contributors. I don't think anyone would be offended if we had used that pick on a bench guy.
5. Yes, we needed a point guard, but remember that free agency comes after the draft. We didn't do ourselves any favors. We coudl have held onto Jameer if it was such a need. But instead, we waive Nelson and the forgettable Ronnie Price, let Moore walk, and then throw money at Ben Gordon, Willie Green, and Luke Ridnour. Imagine if we had used that pick on Saric, and instead took a chance on Isaiah Thomas, who went to Phoenix to be a backup. Or even someone on the Patty Mills level.
