I was really surprised by the calls and the texts he was getting. People thinking the magic could win 30,40, even 50 games with our roster lol...

I personally think we're at the bottom of the league with the squad as currently constructed. I can also easily name 9 squads better than us in the east...

How the hell do we win 40 or more games???

I think if we're lucky we'll be in the high 20s...

PS.. THERES NO WAY THOSE CALLERS WERE SERIOUS.. HAD TO BE TROLLING BAUMANN OR SOMETHING LOLOL

I think this team could be much better than people think on this board. 30 wins is certainly possible, maybe even more if some of the second and third year players bloom. I think some folks on this board will be surprised thtat the team doesn't completely suck as much as they are hoping for.

Couldn't agree more.

If the Magic had simply taken last season's roster and jettisoned Ryno and Dwight - then without question this would be the worst team in the NBA.

Instead they have an influx of talent across the board that makes this roster outside of Dwight FAR better than last season's. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see this squad go 32-50.

There gonna need to make some more moves to get truly awful.

Damn, hes 6'9?? I always thought he was like 6'7 or so

Considering hes only 19, its not unconceivable for him to get to 6'10 and still play SF, which would be pretty impressive and help him match up with guys like durant

A sixers fan already said his growth plates aren't closed yet and he's projected to hit 6'10 before he stops growing...

That would be nice

Just imagine having a front court of

7-1+ Isiah Austin (more i think about it, i dont think we will have top 3 pick for Noel, plus like austin better), 6'10 Andrew Nicholson, 6'10 Moe Harkless

8-)

the magic offered rashard lewis $124 million dollars. the sonics knew he wasn't worth that, so they let him walk. whereas, nobody offered jameer nelson any money, so the magic gave him a $25 million dollar contract. the cap space flexibility the sonics gained by not matching lewis' contract allowed them to acquire two first round picks from the suns in the kurt thomas trade. so, part one - fiscal responsibility.

the sonics then traded their best player, ray allen, to the boston celtics in return for the #5 pick in the draft. sure, jeff green didn't pan out like durant, westbrook, harden, or ibaka did, but he was later moved to acquire perkins, who has proven valuable. but more importantly, acquiring the #5 pick gave the sonics a chance to acquire another all-star early in the draft. meanwhile, the magic traded dwight howard, a better player than ray allen, for aaron aflallo and moe harkless. no top draft talent - moe harkless. while moe harkless has the potential to be a solid role player, he has nowhere near the potential of a top five pick, as proven by the fact that both the cavaliers and kings, notorious "what are they thinking?" drafters, passed on him with their top five picks in this draft. so, part two - make intelligent trades.

finally, bennett wanted to move the sonics to oklahoma city. so the tank began while the thunder were the sonics in seattle. thus, seattle was forced to watch terrible basketball, lowering attendance, which in turn helped partially justify the move. meanwhile, oklahoma city got to avoid watching the sonics have the worst record in the league. meanwhile, orlando has no intentions of moving. Magic fans are just stuck watching years of bad basketball with the hope of lucking out in the draft, as management has shown no signs of fiscal responsibility or intelligence when trading. so, part three - screw over one city in order to appease another.

True, it is a sad state of affairs here in Orlando. Poor management will do that.

I am not looking forward to hoping to luck out in the draft for years upon years to possibly decades.

So let me get this straight. Magic fans complain for years about not spending the money necessary to get quality players next to T-Mac. Once Dwight Howard comes, Magic management gives the GM a greenlight to spend as much as necessary to win. The Magic go on to have a top 5 payroll for years, and now they're deemed "fiscally irresponsible" because the GM made bad moves with the money.

Yes!
A thousand times yes!

That's the definition of fiscal irresponsibility. Spending a sh**-ton of money and not having much of anything to show for it. Despite having a top 5 payroll, they were never able to land a true #2 year in and year out all-star next to Dwight.

Granted, Henny does not deserve blame for this - but one has to wonder if the Jameer signing was an order from up above so they could keep a "name" player fans identify with in the post Dwight year. If that's the case, then the problem may not have entirely left with Otis.

MagicFan41 wrote:While I agree we aren't going to be anything special, I don't think you can simply just look at how we played sans Dwight last year. We are way deeper this year, and our ENTIRE offense was predicated upon dumping it into Dwight, running everything through Dwight. So when he went down, with little-to-no practice time available to adjust with the compressed season....we were like deer in the headlights. With an entirely new system, a training camp, a new coach, time to gel/click....I think guys like Jameer, BBD, and maybe even Turk will thrive more than they did than simply when Dwight went down. There are a lot of factors that people aren't accounting for. Gonna be interesting to watch, to say the least.

An old fashioned... THIS

You cannot use last season's record without Dwight as a barometer.
Half of the roster is different... and more talented than the back-half of last year's roster.

I sort of want to watch Lakers games just to see Kobe chastising Howard and how he responds. Howard will either learn to be humble real quick (which will turn him into a superstar faster imo) or this will be a clusterf#ck of epic proportions real soon!

They may win the chip this next season; but if not the next off season for the Lakers may be similar to our last one.

i like the sound of 7 foot Steven Adams to go with 6 foot 9.5 Nicholson and 6 foot 8.75 Harkless

hieghts for Nicholson and Harkless are according to Draft Express while Adams is Listed as 7 foot on many Websites

Anyone else worried about how Rudolph is gonna make his living now ?

OT. FO should look in to trading Affalo to CHI. Bobcats pick+their own pick+a prospect should do it. Trade would make the team even worse for next yr for max. tankage.

Anyone else think our team this year will be, at the very least, A LOT more entertaining to watch? With SVG and Dwight, we hardly ever pushed the ball in transition and our entire offense revolved around dumping it to Dwight and 3 point shots. Our team's gonna be really fun to watch if Vaughn's scheme is anything like San Antonio's, even if we're losing most of the time.

Eh... Austin is 7'1" but he's also 200 lb. and looks like the softest big man I've ever seen. I'll pass. I'm actually not interested in the big men this year. I hope we get Shabazz.

This year's squad, currently, has all the tools to be a Denver style 'team' competitor. BBD, Afflalo, Jameer, JJ are all good enough to battle with most teams. Any one of them could have a big night if the team plays to the hot hand, and they're all capable of averaging 15ppg. Denver didn't have any scorers that averaged much more than that.

The X factors will be Hedo and how much of a difference he'll make without Dwight (i'm very skeptical that we get much out of him anymore), and the rookies. If Vucevic, Nicholson, Harkless and KO show they can bring something now, then we will be competitors.

I pointed out in the Vucevic thread that in the 15 games he got over 20mpg he averaged 11 and 7 on 51%fg. His team went 9-4 or something for that period. If we give him 30mpg next to BBD he could be a big surprise performer for us. Both BBD and Vu are capable of 10rpg. Both guys can step outside to hit a jumper and draw their defender away from the basket - which will allow the other to do damage where they're most efficient.

Meanwhile, we'll have Jameer and Harkless who are capable of taking it inside from the perimeter, and Afflalo and JJ who can rain it down from the perimeter.

Defensively we will have work to do. BBD and Aff are our strongest defenders. Vu can hopefully keep his guy off the glass and block a couple shots. Jameer is weak, we already know that. Harkless is yet to be seen on that front. Defense will really be about JV getting the team to buy in and provide effort, but I'm hopeful that BBD and Aff set the tone for that.

If we battled for 40 wins I wouldn't be surprised. If we only got 30 wins I wouldn't be surprised. I would actually be surprised if we won less than 30, though.

I thought March. Which is why I see the Bulls as nice trading partners come trade deadline. If they miss the playoffs, they'll have decent 1st round picks that we might be able to acquire by sending one of our 2 guards to them and possibly absorbing someone they dont want with our TPE.
