Has anyone heard if Otto Porter is being bought out? I've seen rumors he is staying, but no one seems to talk about him being a part of our roster.

Seems us who wanted rebuild we need to build a shrine to baskeball gods and sacrifice pepe's beer stash as a sacrifice for sending injury bug...otherwise we would see "run it back" till the end of days...

Harris having #14 feels blashphemous to Jameer.

Knightro wrote:So after listening to Weltman, here's what I've gathered.

-The Magic believed this year's team fully healthy could compete for a top 4 seed in the Eastern Conference.

-The Magic knew this year's team was not a title contender even if they competed for homecourt in the first round.

-The Magic knew because of the impending luxury tax issues, it was unlikely they would be able to retain Fournier, which made "running it back" next season not possible.

-Given their place in the standings this year and the fact that next year's team was unlikely to be as good as what this year's team WOULD have been fully healthy, they decided to unload.

This raises some unanswered questions for me.

So Weltman just told us he thought the Magic could contend for homecourt in the East, but that they felt they had to blow a top-4 team in the conference because the owners are too cheap to pay the tax?

So was the plan to stay healthy this year, get home court in the playoffs, and then cheap out and get worse in the summer?

The logic just doesn't make sense. I felt like Weltman was essentially trying to pitch this season as a "last hurrah" for this group and that change was inevitable no matter how well or poorly they performed.

I think its more of the owner wanting to pay lux tax if we can really be contenders.

lux tax then pretenders isnt gonna cut it.

I honestly don't blame them.

But I do hope they use this offseason to focus on why they have been having so many management issues over the last decade.

Something all of us need to remind ourselves about is a word known as "timing."

We can debate when the best time was to make those moves but the way we did yesterday makes me appreciate the timing.

Let's face it: we are approaching a special draft and we will have options.

If nothing else, we can revel in having hope and a higher ceiling — now and in the years ahead.

Wasn't 14 Jameer's number?

We're 16m under the tax threshold now.

We may be 16m under the cap next season and 40m under the tax threshold.

No one knows.
I think a big part of the Fournier trade was to get off the money that was owed to him, saved the team millions in real money. Teams are said to be losing a lot of money this year. If the front office can save ownership a few million by buying him out why not.

I don't see why his bird rights would be valuable to this team. Prior to yesterday, I would have really liked the idea of trying to sign Otto in the offseason, but I just don't see how he lines up with the rest of the team now. He's probably going to get expensive.

My gut tells me he gets bought out.

Having Porter's bird rights does keep the possibility, however faint, of the Magic being able to work out and sign and trade in the summer alive.

I wouldn't mind keeping him for 14m x 3(or less)...but, at that number, he'll have many options. Def don't want to hamstring our growth plan with an injury albatross deal.

Which is why I didn't want them going with the Denver offer but it is what it is. Let's just hope he's that 1 out of many that actually develops a consistent jumper. Many try and many fail but he does have the elite athleticism part.

Well they have until April 9th to decide, but I guess if saving money (like I suggested) is the key every game matters. I guess they have to have somebody on the roster.

My guess on porter jr is that they likely want to keep him long term and want his bird rights to re-sign him this summer at a more reasonable rate, not 28m per. WeHam probably assume some team will offer him the MLE and they would be willing to match that

I mean in the end hes still only 27 (turning 28 soon), one of the better 3pt shooters, and a good defender, so they probably would like to keep him, and hell if he was making say 10-15 a year, im betting A) the bulls wouldnt even think of trading him and B) we would all be celebrating him. hes not a bad player, just a bad contract

I mean come on he is 19 and hasn’t really gotten NBA minutes because he was on a team loaded with guards. Let’s see how he plays and see how it goes. I trust Denver’s front office probably the best in The league in drafting late. That carries more weight then the some writer who pulls a comp out of his ass.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Alright, all jokes aside ...

What’s the over-under for Bamba’s performance the rest of the season now that he likely takes a larger role?

I’ll start the guesses off at 37 pts, 22 reb, 17 blk per game.
