Lol You've been a Jase fan before he even before he started getting mocked.

I don't mind the pick... if we didnt have the defense and elite forwards who are good playmakers it would've been a problem. But he can be himself and play to his strengths on this team.

I think hes probably a year away from really contributing.

Positives regardless of his size:

- Made positive impact on defense in college despite his size (will still obviously be targeted)
- Doesn't have scalability concerns of guard lotto prospects we see in this draft. Showed he can be impactful in smaller minutes and be even better with a bigger workload.
- Not overly reliant on perimeter, finishes extremely well inside against bigger players
- Solid wingspan

Obviously outside the general shot-making and shiftiness he possesses, there's a lot more nuance to how he can offset his height disadvantages.

From the replays I watched. He has a viable step back 3. Now if we can just give him all of Franz touches on the 3-ball we might just turn this ship around.

Here is hoping you beat Suggs out for the starting lineup kid.

On paper, he is everything you want in a bench player. Time will only tell if he is a diamond in the rough. I have lesser expectations for him then I did TDS as unlike others here I do not see a path to minutes for him unless Mose sticks with a 10 man lineup and even then.

Emotionally I am prepared to put him in the Jett Howard side of the bad draft picks. But as many have said, "it's 25 what do you expect".

Dating back to 02-03 which is as far back as the Basketball Reference Database goes on this stat, Jase Richardson had the 15th best freshman season according to BPM and the 3rd best freshman among guards in the entire database (minimum 20 games played).

1. Zion Williamson 20.1 - 1st overall pick in 2019
2. Anthony Davis 17.2 - 1st overall pick in 2012
3. Cooper Flagg 16.3 - 1st overall pick in 2025
4. Chet Holmgren 15.0 - 2nd overall pick in 2022
5. Karl-Anthony Towns 14.3 - 1st overall pick in 2015
6. Evan Mobley 13.7 - 3rd overall pick in 2021
7. Nerlens Noel 12.1 - 6th overall pick in 2013 (likely would have gone first had he not torn his ACL)
8. Brandon Miller 12.0 - 2nd overall pick in 2023
9. Lonzo Ball 12.0 - 2nd overall pick in 2017
10. Joel Embiid 11.9 - 3rd overall pick in 2014
11. D'Angelo Russell 11.9 - 2nd overall pick in 2015
12. Cody Zeller 11.7 - didn't declare, 4th overall pick in 2013 after sophomore year
13. Jaren Jackson Jr. 11.7 - 4th overall pick in 2018
14. Onyeka Okongwu 11.6 - 6th overall pick in 2020
15. Jase Richardson 11.6 - TBD

Getting a guy with that statistical profile at 25 feels like it would be a bit unprecedented.

IMO, it is HIGHLY unlikely that he falls to 25.

This was predraft and part of the writer's conclusion:
The question then becomes where you feel comfortable drafting this type of player. It’s going to be team-dependent. From a front office perspective, I’d feel most comfortable with Jase in an environment like Orlando’s, where he would have a good amount of defensive insulation and an offense that already runs through bigger players. That would give him an easier path to getting on an NBA floor and positively contributing earlier in his career. In this class, the latter part of the first round feels right. You’re already dealing with a higher level of risk once you get into that range, and there are multiple situations where it’s easy to envision Richardson both finding a place to contribute and having his developmental needs met.

perfect scenario then as a lot has said

Well, as I mentioned in a subsequent post, he and Clayton were the only two I cared about for that pick so we got lucky… Although, I heard Sam Vecenie say that Jase’s previous knee issue is likely why he fell. Saying some teams likely didn’t clear him medically. I was unaware of that… so hopefully this all works out.

Suggs off the bench because we found our Brunson (that is on a rookie contract) would be far from the worst thing that could happen for us. Unlikely but would be okay in my book. Suggs playing the Caruso role would be great if we had a better starter on our hands.

On the other hand, not sure I see the Brunson or Isiah Thomas comparisons either.. don’t really see the ball skills. He’s the 25th pick, it’d be awesome if he turns out to be a good bench player. Maybe we can draft Jokic in the second round tonight?

I could see him being something like a smaller but better shooting version of his brother Josh Richardson.. 3&D guard

When I saw Jase chubby face, I saw the Brunson comparison . lol

I feel like if a player has good skill level overall but is also a lefty, that is a hard-to-quantify advantage that tends to create the small space needed to thrive. I've long watched players like Harden and Brunson seem to get to spots and get off shots that others can't. I think that is because players grow up building muscle memory playing 99% against righties, so they just make the wrong tiny adjustments against southpaws. I'm excited for us to have a skilled lefty to see what happens.

As a lefty myself I approved this message.

Let's compare Richardson to Payton Pritchard early in his career. Thoughts?

I think Pritchard is 20 lbs heavier. I'm hoping Jase could be something like Garland or Sexton.
