i believe they traded their 2013 1st, which was top 20 protected. not sure if they traded 2014, or if that's a roll on deal.
and if they deal their pick on draft day AFTER they select, then they're not technically trading consecutive picks, they're trading draft rights - and then a pick.
2014 first round draft pick to Oklahoma City
Dallas' own 2014 first round draft pick to Oklahoma City via the L.A. Lakers and Houston (Top 20 protected in the 2014 NBA Draft, top 20 protected in 2015, top 20 protected in 2016, top 20 protected in 2017 and unprotected in the 2018 Draft). [Dallas - L.A. Lakers, 12/11/2011 and then Houston-L.A. Lakers, 3/15/2012 and then Houston-Oklahoma City, 10/27/2012]

It's on a roll deal. OKC would've owned this year's pick if it was past the Top 20.
So Dallas has their pick this year. Should be pick #13.
So the terms move to next year (Top 20 protected until 2017). Can Dallas trade a 2014 1st if they already have terms worked out with another team for that pick? I'd assume they could trade it if it's inside the Top 20 right? That said, if we help them clear cap so they can afford 2 max players then we're not seeing them pick inside the Top 20 for a while. The 2014 1st would then go to OKC. Then if 2014 goes to OKC, 2015 can't be traded. 2016 would be the soonest we could realistically see the pick come to us.

that could be a deal worth doing. Dallas might be prepared to do that in preparation for signing Dwight/CP3, but if CP3 returns to LAC, or Houston is able to offer Dwight the chance to team up with Smith and Harden, then it might be enough to disrupt Dallas signing a big enough coup to propel them into the top 10 next year.

Their NBA comparison for Deshawn Stevenson was Michael Jordan. Check it out.

Houston does not have engh cap room to sign ONE Max free agent let alone TWO in Howard and Smith. Houston would need to shed about $3 million more to give Howard MAX money.
IF Howard and Smith want to play together, their best chance is with Dallas and with Dirk, provided Dallas shed the remaining bad contracts.

not sure you are right about that. they are at about $37mil or so guaranteed, and they could easily trade out Asik/Robinson, which would free up another $11mil.
