blue and white wrote:Those asking about how wed get Iggy, my guess is it would probably be the same frame of trade as the reported earlier deal this season where we almost got G wallace and portland would have gotten 4 picks from nj. but this time wed get iggy and philly would prob get alot of picks to go with there youth group. which if this is the case id pass unless we keep jj and anderson and get money to make a big splash in FA in the next year or two.
PG:?
SG: jj, brooks
SF: iggy
PF: anderson
C: Brooks
it isnt a bad lineup and would be alot like denver or portland. though id like to move brooks for a better defensive center like a gortat or bogut but hey beggers cant be choosers. If you get a good pg in FA thats a really good team

Farmar would come over from NJ, he's having a good year. Swap him with Duhon.

Farmar/JJ/Iggy/Anderson/Lopez
Ish/Brooks/Q-Rich/Brand

We'd be a backup C short still, could split all the minutes at PF between Anderson/Lopez/Brand. Each guy would get 32mpg.

Ish isn't significant enough to be a precursor to anything.

however, I would love to get a borderline non-star like Iggy. With or without the bigger baby. That's right. Orl has the big baby and the bigger baby.

I rather have the draft picks instead of iggy. it does not make sense on getting him without howard on the team. although i would welcome him with open arms if the magic landed him somehow without giving up next years draft picks.

Why would you pay a fringe all star that much money without D12 on the team. Give me draft picks and young pieces for D12, not interested in veterans on bloated deals. Iggy makes too much money

Nick Young said yesterday that Arenas got the German treatment Kobe did over the summer done on his own knee and is now feeling great. Zeroing in on the Lakers.

david pingalore @pinglocal6
Some pieces of this puzzle told to me by #nba insiders. #Magic possibly would acquire #sixers andre iguodala too

david pingalore @pinglocal6
Part of this trade being discussed would involve #magic point guard jameer nelson to #sixers

None of this really makes sense. So it has to be true.

Lol I'm going to be honest.. I swear Arenas is going to come back and put up 18/5/4 or something... and put up a couple vintage big scoring games with the Lakers... idk, but I just have this feeling he will lol... and I hope RDV watches those games and says to himself, "I'M PAYING THIS MAN $60 MILLION TO PLAY ON ANOTHER TEAM! "

was it Martins?

I mean we had to amnesty Gilbert... there was no way we could have that money on the cap. That was the right decision by Otis or whoever to make. I just feel bad for Gilbert sometimes... he lost 20lbs and worked with Tim Grover... I hope he does well in LA or wherever he goes... which probably won't make RDV happy (since he's still paying him, even though it doesn't count towards the Magic team's salary)

BUT I will say this... I was very curious to see how Gil would have fared starting at PG for us this season.

Grover made an off the record comment that Gil was done. His knee/him would never be the same. And it makes sense because his game relied completely on his athleticism. He was not a great shooter, not a great passer, not a great defender. He was a guy would could blow past his man and create havoc in the paint, or get hot every once in awhile from the outside.

I remember that! ... wasn't it said by Woj to one of our RealGM members (they were at a bar)... I think it was chunnyboy

It's a shame his knees couldn't sustain the rehabilitation and strengthening... but who knows... this German doctor/science thing is some sort of miracle worker to athletes... they've been successful thus far... I still think Arenas could put up "okay" numbers... not those ridiculous 25/7/6 stuff he used to do... maybe 17/4/3 or 15/4/2... or even 12/4/2.

Let's see if the Lakers sign him... it'd definitely be an upgrade for them with Derek and Blake both playing horrendously (and some injuries here and there). And a Kobe/Arenas back-court (as a fan) has to pique your intrigue lol... low risk, high reward vet min contract for Gil.

I hope so, I always liked Gil as a person and player. I never agreed with his horrendous contract, but sports is entertainment and that guy sure is entertaining. I wish him the best, and I would enjoy seeing him play out here in LA. It is crazy though how no one out here really talks about the Lakers anymore. All the commercials, advertising, etc is all Clippers. I find it hillarious

Almost positive it was ownership's decision. They would've basically had to pay an EXTRA $15-$20 mil on TOP of his $20mil salary to keep him due to the luxury tax. No way ownership wanted to do that for another year again. The Magic LOST $16mil last year (even with selling out every single game and their new arena with sold-out suite revenue etc). I personally would've loved to see what Gil had to offer as well. In fact, I think it was kind of stupid to tell him to get in shape, lose all this weight etc etc....and then amnesty him the second you could. I said when it happened I thought it was an idiotic decision (at least give the guy the week in training camp to see what he had left). He was amnestied instantly for no real reason.

As for all these people saying they don't want Iggy without Dwight....umm, what? You don't want great athletic players who are a triple-double threat any night?? He definitely isn't past his prime, he isn't making $20mil a year or anything....all of you guys who think you can just draft your way instantly back into title contention are off your minds. It's happened basically ONCE -> OKC. They drafted PERFECTLY and had to suck for two more years to get back to back to back top 5 picks. It almost never happens that way. May as well get two solid player at their position in Iggy and Lopez, hopefully a young guy in Brooks, and then build around that. We would be thanking our lucky stars if we could get a guy in the 10-20 pick draft range (which is prob what the picks would be) as good as Iggy. Gimme a break. You all do realize you have to spend money on SOMEBODY right? There is a minimum floor. You can't just have a roster filled with rookie salaries.

Philly trading with us is bogus. They're at the top of the East with Iggy coming into his own as a leader of that team. They have 3 point guards better than Jameer. There's no way they break that chemistry up for Jameer. Ping trolling and insulting our intelligence again.

^^ like I said, the key to rebuilding is draft picks, but also clearing cap (to sign good FA), and developing players... Lopez is a good start... Marshon too... if we got Iggy I'd be thrilled, dude is a near triple-double kind of talent when he's on, and a tremendous defender... I'd be happy with Lopez, Ryan, and Iggy, even without Dwight... that's a solid trio to build around (BUT YOU HAVE TO ADD MORE OBVIOUSLY), then add some good role players through draft and FA, get some big names to Orlando (again, clearing cap is key, so getting expiring contracts, and trading away players on bad deals is good), and properly developing the youth is the way to go (IF and When Dwight leaves).

oh btw, I knew we had to amnesty Arenas... but I think we should have at least seen what he could've done... at least give the guy some tape/footage for other teams to see... he worked hard to get in shape, at least see if he did well in the pre-season and some games before we eventually had to amnesty him... it's not like we were on a deadline to do so that early.

Would you guys give picks to Philly to get back Brand and Iggy? Try to hang on to 1 of them?

This logic reminds me of the south park episode mocking mormonism.....dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb. Iggy is making $14 this year and set to make more each of the next 2-3 years. He is not an All Star! He makes the team this year because Philly deserves at least 1 with their record. You do not pay a player that kind of money on a lottery team. There is a minimum total salary requirment, but you have to resign Lopez probably at $10 per, Anderson at $6-$8 per, and fill out the rest of the roster. If the ultimate goal is a championship you do not hope to scrape together enough wins to barely make the playoffs every year and get knocked out by Miami and Chicago. You make smart financial decisions, hope you draft well, and try to eventually make a splash in free agency or trading some of your newly acquired young assets for a disgruntled star.

Can somebody tell me why we aren't trying to go after Kenyon Martin? We do still have the MLE to use...would be a great defensive force at backup C or to play alongside Dwight at PF sometimes.
