He's doing his wallet a favor by trying to get traded so he can make the extra money. Thats what its all about. He's wanted to leave for awhile, because the rumors about the Lakers have been around. He wants to go to a team of his choice and get fully compensated for it. I would really just keep him and make him look like a a-hole all season. Then make him take 30 million less to leave.

he really isnt leaving $30mil on the table. That is comparing a 5 yr contract with a 4 year. When you take a straight 5 yr vs 5 yr, he is probably leaving around $10mil, easily made up with endorsements.

Thats not the point. He had to use it on him but it was his trade to begin with and one forced by his long ago bungling on the Shard contract that cost his owner that extra cash.

In fairness, without the Shard contract, there's no way we make a run into the finals. He was the perfect player for us at the time.

Yes he overpaid, but jeez, we did beat Cleveland to get there that year.

There is no state income tax here though. All the places he is looking to go to have some stiff state taxes.

Tell me more. I thought the rules change was that if he opts out and goes else the max he could sign was a 4 yr. What is this other 5 yr option he can sign?

the 1st year of his next contract. He doesnt stop playing after his next contract. So he does 5 yr at $110m or 4 at $80m. After his 4 yrs, he would sign another contract, so add in that 1st year and he isnt losing $30. simple math

I liked Rashard Lewis, but trading for Arenas was a bad idea. We should have just kept Rashard. And trading Gortat was also a dumb move. Also drafting Fran was (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Otis isn't that great of a GM, but Dwight should not be putting the blame on him for wanting to leave. Dwight is a player, players play games. Learn how to make free throws before you worry about personnel decisions!!!

Isn't there some sort of raise though? isn't it 4% compared to 7% if he signs with the Magic or completes a sign and trade?

well, in the 1st year. You cant measure 5 years vs 4 years and say its the same.

I am trying to understand what i have been reading, mostly about CP3, so I am talking about his next contract. Not anything beyond that. If he opts and resigns he can sign for 5 years. If he opts and goes to another team he can only sign 4, is that correct or not? So if a Greg Oden (heaven forbid) situation was to occur, he would potentially not get the difference in salary for that year. This is how it was explained, so that was wrong?
