I like Royce a lot, but he would be much worse than Hedo (who is an underrated defender when motivated) against NBA small forwards.
I'm not sure why you think White is an average defender, when the only guy that actually gave him some problems was Thomas Robinson and that was a big time battle.
He is a decent defender, but the Big 12 was not exactly loaded with standout bigs and the one gave him problems. That said, I don't think he is a bad defender at PF, and he has the tools to be a good one with some time. I like him a lot as a power forward. But, that is the one position we actually have covered.
Why try to force a natural power forward to play out of position when there are plenty of quality players in this draft who can help us at need spots? Guys like Jeff Taylor and Moe Harkless are natural small forwards with just as much upside, without having to play out of position.
I know everyone keeps saying we are loaded at the four spot and I can see why people think that but we really aren't. Right now we have three guys are the four in BBD, Ryno, and Harper but if you really look at the situation we only really have one and a half. Ryno is a RFA and I believe he is gone because a team will offer him to much money for us to match. Harper is a tweener who really doesn't have the size to play the four primarily. So that leaves us with Glen and Harper who is a tweener and hasn't shown anything. So I don't think we are really stacked at the four and could use another body, although I believe White has the ability to play either the three or four.
The truth is Royce isn't a bad defender or struggle against anyone in the big 12 or outside of the big 12. On the year Royce average 1.2 steals a game along with .9 blocks and game and when he played against ranked opponets it was 2.0 steals a game and 1 block a game.
This is what the best players in the big 12 did going against Royce.
Perry Jones: 8-13 for 18 points
Perry Jones: 5-11 for 10 points
The first game Royce got into early foul trouble and Perry got into a really good grove in the second game Royce didn't get into foul trouble and gave Perry fits.
Thomas Robinson: 4-10 for 11 points
Thomas Robinson: 5-11 for 13 points
Royce struggled early in both games, where Robinson got a couple buckets early but really started to give Robinson fits as the game wore on. This is a common theme for Royce it always takes him a few minutes to find his rythem in games.
I believe that Royce has the length and atleast enough amount of quickness to be able to stay with NBA 3's. I don't think he will ever be a great defender but I do see him being able to be a decent defender and with Dwight thats all we need. I also like Royce for either the 3 or 4 spot so it really doesn't matter to me.
