Re: Official Speculation Thread
I was just sitting back thinking about this TPE that we have waiting to be used. With the Hire of Brad Stevens to the Boston Celtics, the question is up in the air about whether Rajon Rondo stays with Boston or is moved to another team. What if Orlando could be that team. I was thinking about this trade, it's probably more of a dream scenario.
Orlando Trades: Andrew Nicholson, Aaron Afflalo, Big Baby Davis
Orlando Receives: Rajon Rondo, Derrick WIlliams
Boston Trades: Rajon Rondo
Boston Receives: 11.00 Million Trade Exception, Andrew Nicholson, 2015 1st Rd Draft Pick ( Top 3 Protected )
Minnesota Trades: Derrick Williams
Minnesota Receives: Aaron Afflalo, Big Baby Davis
This leaves Orlando with the Lineup of....
Orlando Lineup:
PG: Rajon Rondo, Jameer Nelson (6th Man), Etuan Moore
SG: Victor Oladipo, Doron Lamb
SF: Mo Harkless, FA
PF; Tobias Harris. Derrick Williams, Romero Osby
C: Nik Vucevic, Kyle O'Quinn
I honestly would love for this happen, Rondo would be the distributor that the Magic havent had since Turkoglu in his prime, or even Skip to my Lou. Imagine what Rondo can do with a team full of athletic young players, and with himself being young with a championship, it can really make a hopeful positive influence on the rest of the team.

What's the point? Ask yourself, "why would we want Rondo and his poor attitude around this team? And how does that help us get a good pick next draft?".
Seriously, why do guys like you want to win now? If you don't like our management's vision for long term success and sustainability, be a Raptors fan. They don't know how good we have it here.
Stop with the Rondo trade ideas, they're absolutely pointless and won't even happen.

really? We won't actually have cap space till we waive Turk and Harrington and then make a decision on Beno Udrih as he still has a large cap hold. We could renounce his rights which would get rid of that hold or just resign him on the cheap which does the trick too.
But even then Hennigan has said we are going to be swimming in the kiddie pool this offseason. He is a patient man and he isn't going to rush into the market and hurt his cap picture for next year where he can potentially have enough room for two max or near max free agents. Plus I think we are one of those teams that is likely trying to position ourselves for a shot at Andrew Wiggins. And this free agent market just isn't for us either as we don't have enough for a top guy that would help turn things around nor is there really that PG that makes sense as a replacement for Nelson. This isn't surprising at all. At most we get involved in some trades where we look for expiring contracts and young players or draft picks. As far as free agency at most we look for the low cost low term bargains rather than an overpriced free agent that would cut into our cap picture for next year and hurt our chances at a top draft pick.
Come on bro, don't you just want to make a move just to make a move? What' wrong with you!

nope. We also dont know that Henny is burning up the phone lines to every team to see what trades are out there that he can be a part of. Or is he. thats the thing, we just dont know. Unlike Otis, I trust Henny so far that silence out of there isnt a bad thing or that he isnt doing anything.

This FO doesn't seem like a group that deviates from a plan. So I'm ok with a boring offseason

The Pelicans are quietly building a well balanced team:
Holiday
Evans
Gordon
Anderson
A. Davis
They should be able to make a playoff push if Davis steps up and Gordon stays healthy. I think Tyreke would be best in a sixth man role, but I imagine that they are hoping Austin Rivers could salvage his career as a sixth man/ back up combo guard.

Our activity will pick up when free agency nears an end. Teams are trying to fill holes with free agents first so they don't have to give up any assets. Once they miss out on their targets, it'll be Henny's time to start working the phone lines.

Some people are really excited about the fact that every team outside of the top 5 silk be actively trying to lose. This means that slight improvement can be the difference between a 20 win team and a 35 win team. As if there is some pride in winning an 8 seed and getting swept by the Heat. The Bucks went all in on the Redick trade last year and got an 8 seed out of a team no one believed in. Ask their fans how great it feels.

I understand everybody wants to tank next season and try to get Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker. Lets remember that the worst teams dont even get the 1st pick, and that its never promise. So why not just be a competitive team, even if we were ever to add Rondo to the team, it wouldn't be a team that wins over 30 games. But with T-12, and Mo continue to progress to become the superstars that they are destined to be, as well as Vuccimane becoming even more of a beast. This team is already destined for greatness soon! Top 5 PIck in 2014, and having the capspace will push us over the top for that following year. I was just throwing around an idea in my end. At the end of the day heck we can just send our tpe to the PIstons for Villanueva and another draft pick

Re: Official Speculation Thread
we need to clear AA and BBD off the books this year, so come 2014 we have a core of:
Vuc/KO
Harris/Nicholson
Harkless/Orby
Oladipo/Lamb
plus a couple 2014 1sts (us and Denver/NY).
then, if we draft a PG (Smart/Harrison/etc), we try to sign a big man (DMC). if we draft a big man (Randle/Gordon/etc), we try to sign a PG (Wall). if we draft a wing (Wiggins/Parker/etc) we try to sign BOTH!.
signing guys like Wall won't be easy, as Washington will match everything and anything, but if we've got enough quality trade pieces to send back (like the Hornets are doing currently), we could get a deal done. and with a crafty contract in place, we could potentially offer Wall a max contract with a 2nd year ETO, and 3rd year player option, so if Washington does match - Wall will always be a threat to walk away after a year and sign outright with someone else, forcing Washington's hand in negotiating a s&t with us.

Not at all. Magic dont NEED to do anything right now. People just want a trade so they have something to talk about.

If you hoping Harris or Harkless will be superstars, then you're going to be very disappointed. We don't have any potential superstars on the roster, not even Dipo although I'm very high on his potential. That's why we need a high pick next year. Even if we don't land Wiggins, I hope Randle, Gordon, Harrison, or Parker could be someone that complete our team. We sure as hell aren't getting any superstars through free agency. That's why talks of getting Rondo is stupid. Why bother being a mediocre team? With Rondo, we might be fighting for 6th seed the next few years. Just tank one more year, and sign some pieces that fit the team and we'll likely be competing in 2-3 years. I'm pretty sure this is what the FO are doing.
