Lewis is an interesting name. Coached under Dino Babers.

Longo was a head coach for two seasons and didn’t have a winning record. NC has been great of recent but they’ve also had better talent.

Hiring Lewis will anger many.

Longo has very limited previous HC experience.

Lebby just seems like the natural and logical choice in replacing JH.

The other three names rumored (not confirmed) are...

Former Auburn HC Gus Malzahn
Miami OC Rhett Lashlee
Buffalo HC Lance Leipold

get a good recruiter. Gus couldnt recruit that well and didnt seem to develop QB's or modify his offense as time went on.

Personally, I have no interest in Gus.

I'm extremely weary of the former P5 head coach taking the "step backwards" G5 job and struggling significantly to adjust to the much lower recruiting and assistant coach budgets.

Charlie Strong failed going from Texas to USF. Tommy Tuberville failed going from Texas Tech to Cincinnati. Charlie Weis failed going from Notre Dame to Kansas. Les Miles is currently failing going from from LSU to Kansas. Butch Davis is currently failing at FIU after successful runs at Miami and UNC. Dana Holgorsen is failing at Houston after a nice run at WVU.

George O'Leary is one of the few guys who has successfully pulled it off.

think you have to embrace it vs using it to go back somewhere.

Frank Solich has done well at Ohio. Hugh Freeze has done well at Liberty. Lane Kiffin at FAU.

and of course Miles would fail going to Kansas, who wins there?

you're hardest part is being a non-P5 school. But it isnt that bad. Would anyone really take say Vandy over UCF? Texas Tech? Illinois?

your past 6 years or so have shown you can win both in the conference and on the big stage and in big games. Go independent, then you can schedule anyone. play all the big name schools.

I embrace the reality that UCF is a stepping stone job for both athletic directors and football coaches. Being a stepping stone doesn't bother me one bit though because ultimately if your ADs and head coaches are being poached, it means the football team is winning and that's all that really matters.

Head coach has been made apparently. Now we wait to find out who it is.

Will probably leak tonight.

If does end up being Jeff Lebby, the rumors are he's going to bring several Ole Miss staffers with him.

Like as many as 5-6 guys.

A lot of smoke floating out there that it's Gus Malzahn. We'll see.

There's additional chatter that the UCF Board of Trustees may have nixed Lebby based on his involvement in the Baylor stuff.

That wouldn’t be a shocker. Lebby has baggage and we’re not the SEC that would overlook that.

I’m a little concerned the “offer” wasn’t accepted. Usually formal offers don’t happen unless there is an agreement.

If it is Gus, it's going to take some convincing.

I remember before and after the Peach Bowl not having positive thoughts about him. Worked out for us at the time as we beat his team.

I really didn’t care for him before or after the peach bowl. Not sure I get why he’d want this job. Man is getting paid to do nothing for years by Auburn.

I'd buy the Lebby argument if UCF hadn't already vetted Lebby to be their OC in 2018 and 2019.

His past transgressions were acceptable for a coordinator role, but not for the head coach role?

I don't buy it.

I’m wondering if this has anything to do with Cartwright. Just doesn’t hiring Gus with everything the “program” was building.

Glass half full view...

* He's beaten Nick Saban's Alabama team three times

* Assuming he's successful, would likely have a lengthy tenure, and while we could do the revolving door thing with up-and-coming coaches a few times, this would be preferable

* Has been to a national championship game, lost by a field goal

* Has had high level of success in the SEC, of all conferences

* Has a proven track record and is a relatively big name, which should help with recruiting
