$10 SAYS THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED.

LA Calls Henny:

Kupcake: Hey Rob I would like to talk to you more about Howard.

Henny: That's great but we already have a deal in place with Houston once they clear the Lin and Asik contract situation up.

Kupcake: Wait, we have no shot?

Henny" No, I did not say that. We just have a really really good deal in place with them and based on your last offer I do not think we are anywhere near being able to make a deal.

Kupcake: Well we are prepared to Send Bynum & Gasol and take back a few of your bad contracts.

Henny: No offense Mitch, but based on Gasol's last two playoff performances he probably is the worst contract in the league now that Lewis was waived.

Kupcake: Well he still has a lot of value and you might be able to move him for a young piece.

Henny: If that is true how come you have not done that yet?

Kupcake: Look, I bet we can get Dwight to commit to us long term and that would be a better deal then.

Henny: For you that would be, that would mean my asking price would go up.

Kupcake: Will you at least give us a chance to see if we can make something work.

Henny: OK tell you what, you have until Houston gets their situation cleared up. Once that happens we are moving forward with the deal we have.

Kupcake: Consider it done, go ask Dwight to get his thing out of that stripper last night and come to meet me for lunch.

Henny: Here is his number I will get the two of you together.

This would be our front court rotation for many many years if we could get Bynum long term.

Now add Ellis possibly to the mix 26 years old. And there you have a team to grow together for 5 to 7 years minimum.

100%. I don't think people are looking at the Big picture with Bynum. his ceiling is limitless right now as well as our young bigs we drafted or traded as you mention. people Forget LA's front court killed us just like Bostons. People forget this year we had front front court play and split two games with the heat. The front court is by far the most difficult parts of basketball to build a complete system around and with Bynum and our young bigs we can do that.

not to disagree with you but to me nelson was the reason why the magic beat the heat last year (preseason and regular)

You could say that. PG is not exactly a strong position for them either. My point was that it took Ryan Anderson and Dwight to give the Magic the lifts they needed beyond the spectacular guard play. Something a lot of teams don't have you know?

Oh and FTR, Glen Davis had an amazing pre season game vs the heat for his first show in a Magic jersey. the atmosphere at amway for that pre-season game between Miami feels like a game 7 in a playoff series. Awesome of course.

Houston isn't giving up promising young players and expiring contracts for Gasol.

Pretty much this.

But you will need a defensive team and commitment.

Of course you do. Or else your best case scenario is the Nash/Amar'e Suns.

Isn't the Grizzlies interested in Gasol to pair with his brother? Maybe we could get Deng.

I doubt anyone will give up much for Gasol. Maybe Kahn? Do not want.

Only way houston trades us for gasol is if its for just one of the rookies and MAYBE an average player

Like everyone i saying trade gasol for lamb/parsons/draft pick, umm.....we would be lucky to get lamb and parson, let alone a draft pick

If anything, we would have to include someone else (or a pick) with gasol to get just those 2 players alone

In these days and Age, i think it's true, But, teams do need someone that can create their own shot, both in the Post, and on the wing to make a run at a title.

PT2:

Henny: Hey Morey how are things there in Houston.

Morey: Good, good, looks like the Knicks just want to bust on our balls a little.

Henny: Yes seems that way. Any idea when you think you want to sit down on the final details on the deal we discussed?

Morey: Well sure, once we hear from Chicago, but I am leaning toward keeping Lamb, he has been tearing it up in summer league.

Henny: That is a shame Morey, because the Lakers have just came in with a really great offer and I figured I would give you the heads up I was going to need more than what we discussed.

Morey: Wait you can't do that...

Henny: Sorry Morey, but I have to do what is in the best interest of our organization, I am sure you understand.

Morey: Hey I was just kidding about pulling Lamb from the deal.

Henny: Sure, sure, well you let me know what else you can do to sweeten this deal because from the looks of it, the Lakers are not going to stop until I tell them YES.

Morey: I will take all your bad contracts and throw in a pick.

Henny: Ofcourse you would, we are talking about the best center in the league. I will call you tomorrow and let you know where we are at. We have some more evaluations to look at. Anyone on your roster untouchable.

Morey: well not really I guess, but we just signed the Euro so you know we can't trade him.

Henny: Hey I am willing to wait. So you might have to put him in the deal.

Morey: errr... loke we want Dwight, lets get it done.

Henny: Like I said I will talk to you tomorrow. Get your best offer together and we can go from there.

Damn it...I've now agreed with two of skins posts...in one day!!

Why do people think we have to have a back to the basket dominant center when clearly the trend has shifted to a perimeter oriented game? Just because Dwight was one doesn't mean thats what we HAVE to get in return.

Guards, & SF are a dime a dozen in the NBA, which is what we would get from Houston. Draft picks are a much much higher risk than a Center, who is 24 years old and putting up 18 & 12.

the only team worth "flipping" gasol to would be minnesota - they want to pair gasol with love in the frontcourt and it would make rubio and love both happy. they should be able to send pekovic and derrick williams along with a pick for gasol

Pretty much this.

Don't be prisoners of the moment. This is very cyclical. After Jordan's second 3-peat, here's a the list of NBA champions: The ones in bold had a dominant center or PF.

1999 Spurs (Duncan and Robinson)
2000 Lakers (Shaq)
2001 Lakers (Shaq)
2002 Lakers Shaq)
2003 Spurs (Duncan)

2004 Pistons
2005 Spurs (Duncan)
2006 Heat (Shaq)
2007 Spurs (Duncan)
2008 Celtics (KG)
2009 Lakers (Gasol)
2010 Lakers (Gasol)
2011 Mavs (Dirk)

2012 Heat

Yes. A lot of these teams had stellar guards as well. But none of them win without their great PF or Center. That's 12 of the last 14 champions that had a dominant PF or Center. Last year was not the norm (and you can make a case the Heat do not win without Bosh).

So let's be careful when we say you don't need a big to win a trophy, because the facts clearly state otherwise.

Then why in the world the best one we could pair with Dwight was Jameer freakin Nelson ?
