The best player in the NBA at shooting threes off the dribble so far this season?
None other than Cole Anthony.

Yup
Because that's usually the case. The team with 0 star players usually just play guys so they can trade them so they can continue the tank

Re: Cole World: Orlando Magic Select Cole Anthony at #15
He takes and makes horrific shots...for now.
I found some data that he shot like 7 out of 9 for 3 with man in his face while league's average is like 23%.
As for his behavior, guy had live brodcast on ESPN about what college he will go in like he is college Lebron. Son of nba player, turned tv persona. He has inflated ego, it's nothing new really. You either like showman persona or hate it. But you know he won't pass many shots

Good to see him playing well especially with all the unwarranted hate he gets. Dude is a 2nd year guard and people were ready to trade him because he didn’t fit the realm mandated PG mold.

With his hot play right now, i love him taking them. This guy is cocky and sometimes overconfident, but it’s a joy to watch someone on our team, who is able to create and make shots out of iso situations.
And to be fair, for now he is the safest bet when we need a bucket, so i’m happy with him being the fga leader. Suggs needs some work though, his finishing and shooting is questionable right now, but it was the same for Cole last year for the first half of the season.

Suggs needs to work with Chris Brickley and Black Ops Basketball like Cole has been doing.jvdas wrote:pepe1991 wrote:He takes and makes horrific shots...for now.

I also think Cole's shooting is real. I think he'll end up being a career 40% 3 pt. shooter.

He is notorious for taking terrible shots, so even if he is above average shooter, he probably won't shoot that well. In general small guards normally don't shoot 40% for 3 if they are not top tear players.
There is also something about restrictions. For him there is no consequences if he shoots 2-11 for 3 or 1-7, there , next game he will green light on this team to take again 10 threes.
In competitive nba teams, only stars, allstars, superstars have that luxury.
In general i don't really care that he shoots 15+ shots a night this year. But i don't think he is player that raises ceiling of a team or helps win games, at least not from what i saw from him from nba and college basketball.
And btw , i don't care about his celebrating wins like it's game 7 of championship game.

Re: Cole World: Orlando Magic Select Cole Anthony at #15
Some of Cole's On/Off numbers this year are staggering.
On Cleaning the Glass he's in the 99th-100th percentile in terms of On/Off the court impact in nearly all offensive categories. He's arguably been a top 50 player so far this year. This team as currently constructed just needs his offense from my perspective.
I could see Cole's alpha dog aspirations becoming a problem at some point, but for that to happen, someone better is going to have to step up and present themselves as a challenge. Suggs isn't there yet, despite having ample opportunity to do so. Wagner won't be an alpha offensively.
The post-game stuff doesn't really bother me. I don't cringe per se, but I'm also not one of the ones retweeting it on Twitter and calling him the greatest interview in the league. His teammates seem to like him, which is what I care about.
He's been a major positive so far this year all around, && I've generally been one of his main detractors on this board.

This chart says you are flat out making your own narrative up. (AKA lying/ disregarding facts)
This isn't some weird measurement, he is shooting 48% on 3s off the dribble.
If he misses his next 9, he's still shooting 38%, which is still a pretty good number.
I can see hating a player not playing well, but it Cole is not that player.

Yes, his efficiency will regress to the mean and long-term he's probably a bench player on a competitive team.
That doesn't mean I'm not going to enjoy watching him when he's playing well and getting hype after a W over the best (record-wise) team in the league - let the kid enjoy his success. It's nice to have someone with a bit of charisma playing for the Magic for once.

Oh 100% this.
The kid has averaged 31-9-6 in the Magic's three victories with a 75 TS%.
He's a lot of fun when he gets on a roll. I'm not sure if it's a long-term play, but it's really fun to have a guard who can absolutely kick someone's ass at times.

Disagree here.
While he might regress, this kid works too hard and wants it to bad for him to count him out and say he's only going to be good on bad teams or a bench player on a good team

We should be ecstatic that Cole is showing out. Even if he doesn't pan out as a long term option he is building up his trade value.

Re: Cole World: Orlando Magic Select Cole Anthony at #15
One thing I respect about Cole is he seems to wear his weaknesses on his sleeve. Everyone here knows he talked about how he had to be a better defender. I don't know what the numbers say, but the effort doesn't seem like lip service. He seems to genuinely care about getting better. After the Knicks game, he said his little brother had told him to stop missing so many shots. He played it off like a wisecrack but to me it was good to see him openly admit that he was playing poorly. So many NBA players seem content to say they didn't "bring enough energy" or "play aggressive" enough and that's why they failed. A little open honesty is refreshing.
