Highly unlikely. They’re trying to make a win now statement. Tanking is contrary to that. They still need to renegotiate with Zach. I want a late tens pick, 8 to 10.

Re: Official 2021 NBA Draft Thread
After Bulls- Suns game, i'm 120% sure i'm passing any center in lottery for years to come.
Just not worth taking.
Also Isaac has more potential at C than anybody you could draft or you currently have (Wendell / Bamba)
Ayton, who went 1# and looked heads and shoulders better than any C drafted in lottery last few years, is nothing but role player.
Wiseman, as i've said, does nothing for me or for a team.
Skin's idea of playing Mobley at SF almost made me vomit. Stop re-iventing positions. Draft PG or SG or SF and play that guy there. I'm so done with hybrid lineups bull****s. It doesn't work. Never has.

Toronto starts to worry me. A team full of defenders & 2 way players cant defend anymore. Those guys checked out mentally.
Baynes must be the worst signing of the season. Siakam cant do anything anymore on offense or defense.

Those guys definitely want this season to be over and get back to Toronto, I didn't realize they hadn't been playing Lowry either
I still believe in Magic! Welcome to the Franz & Paolo era

They simply don't give a damn.
Siakam enjoys his max contract and plays like s**t.
Other than Boucher, who plays for first legit nba contract (very good player, very similar to Isaac ), others don't seem to care.
They lost 13 of last 14 games
I mean, they might hold Lowry back for rest of a year.

As soon as you stop viewing this season as top 5 or bust the better. Cliff is not gonna tank. Never did in Charlotte either.
I want a top 5 pick as bad as anyone, but I don’t think this organization is in a full tank mode. The effort I see out of our team is extremely different than that of TOR, CLE, and OKC (talent is probably more of their issue over effort). I just see it as inevitable that we pass them all before this season ends.

The could be in the play in tournament, but still end up with the 8th or 9th pick. As long as they don't beat the 8th and 9th seed to become the 8th seed.RookieStar wrote:Skin wrote:Bulls gonna lose. Damn this trade is lookin' GOLDEN.

Bulls trade for Vuc would have made any sense if they were able to finalize Lonzo trade and if Lavine , Markannen and White are healthy.
But non of it makes sense if you have Lavine with injury, Markannen playing hurt , White out with injury and no starting point guard. Hell, they don't even have backup point guard.
Also that Thies trade made no sense, just killed chance for Markannen to play at small ball C.
Just poor menagment decision, they probably thought Lonzo trade is secured, that's only logical explanation.

Skin wrote:Explain yourself. You like him at SG? Or do you think we need a SF?
A few things...
1. The Magic do not have a single franchise caliber player on their roster at any position. They *might* have some decent supporting pieces, but even that is up for debate. If the no questions asked best player is a center, then they should pick him and just dump Carter and/or Bamba. If the no questions asked best player is a point guard, then they should pick him and move Fultz and/or Anthony.
There’s absolutely nothing on this roster that should influence this year’s draft pick.
Draft the very best player available regardless of position and move pieces around that player.
It’s a clean slate at this point.
2. Just because Steve Clifford has an obsession with set positions and specifically how he can find size at said positions, doesn’t mean that’s how the Magic should operate moving forward.
Also I don’t expect Steve to be here more than one more season and how he sees things isn’t how the rest of the league really plays anymore.
There are really only three positions at this point.
-primary ball handler
-wing
-big
There’s little nuances within those position groups, smaller wings and bigger wings, but for the most part that’s how it works.
The difference between SG/SF is the most negligible of all the positions IMO. They’re just wings.
If you are a shooting guard, in almost every instance you can also play small forward and visa versa because it’s simply an interchangeable position for most NBA teams. Wings are wings.
When it comes to Cade Cunningham specifically, I don't think he's a guy you want as your primary ball handler every single play. But the guy should have absolutely no issues anywhere on the wing. Playing the 2, 3 or 4 depending on matchups. And beyond that I really want to get away from this whole "we're going to play the exact same way every night - same rotation, same minute structure, same playing groups, same play calls - in the name of building consistency" thing that Clifford does. It's a free flowing game and the best coaches are cognizant and look to take advantage of favorable personnel matchups on a nightly basis.

It's unfortunate. Still seems to me that they haven't truly picked a lane. I think they are valuing acquiring assets and hoping to turn them into a star. The problem is this FO doesn't tend to actually part with those types of assets for much value.

I agree that the Magic are not going to do anything but play (and coach) to win, but I am just not overreacting yet. There's just not many talented offensive players here right now.
In 3 games since the trade, the Magic have a 103.4 ORTG and a 104.8 DRTG.
Over the course of the full season that would rank the Magic dead last in offense and No. 1 in defense.
So I ask myself which one of those two things is more likely to sustain? Will this rag tag group improve offensively from the bottom or will they be able to be the best defense in the sport every night for the next 6 weeks?
Feels extremely likely to me that the offense staying bad is much more likely than the defense staying super elite.
Like I said, not too worried about it yet. You can only grind out so many wins in an offensive minded league.

its too early. to judge the trade. I mean ots been what 3 games? We have posters here who claimed Okeke was a bust pick and we were still half in the season.
Give it time. The bulls and us are going in different directions and we both got what we want as much as i hated to trade vuc.

I'm with you there. Definitely not overreacting, more just changing my mindset to prevent from overreacting. Team is fun to watch. Chuma, Bamba, and WCJ will be fun to watch develop as the season goes on. If I view those as the goals of the season and we end up with a great pick I am far more happy than if I want to win no games and we end up with the 7th pick

If we can keep Carter on a friendly deal I’m fine rolling with the Carter / Bamba duo for years to come.
Let’s get a killer star studded Guard / Wing group.

I agree that we will finish outside of the top 5, but that doesn't mean this isn't a top 5 or bust season. Hell, to me, there is a huge drop off after the top 4 players this year. People just need to prepare themselves for the fact that we will more than likely be picking outside of it.
It will no doubt be another huge miss on the behalf of this franchise though && should be considered a bust season if we don't pick top 5 this year. I've already accepted it though. I'm not going to get my hopes up. I've seen this movie before.

Re: Official 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Started looking into Jalen Johnson... there's something about him that makes me think he would be one of the top 4 players to come out of this draft. his combination of Size, athleticism, length..... AND SURPRISE.... SKILL, BALL HANDLING, COURT VISION, and SCORING... is really intriguing!
kinda reminds me of a bigger tatum ... less offensive potential... with more defensive potential
