Re: Race for Ping Pong Balls
I’ve been watching a lot of the bulls games because I’m intrigued by the Zach+Vuc’s combo (I wanted us to trade AG for Zach a few years ago before he blew up). And I haven’t posted about it because the Vuc fans would come out to bash me but... Vuc is an empty stat player. He isn’t a ‘loser’ but he isn’t a winner either. The amount of points he gives up in the paint is crazy. Billy Donovan doesn’t do them any favors either. That team is poorly constructed and coached. They have two good pieces but need a lot of work.

Capela always gives Vuc a hard time.
Washington up 7 at the half, they should be up 20, they just blew so many shots.

Huge win for them. They’re terrible though. I wish they were better coached. I would actually believe they could catch the Bulls if they were better coached.

After yesterday's games:
Orlando is 2 1/2 games worse that #5 Washington
Orlando is 1 game better than #3 Detroit
Chicago has slid to the 10th worst team.

Re: Race for Ping Pong Balls
With the Bulls loss to the Hawks:
As the 10-seed in the East, if the Bulls were to win two play-in games, the Magic would get the 15th pick in the draft. If they were not two win those two games, the pick would be conveyed at a 86.12% chance (that is, there is a 13.88% chance the pick would not convey).
Right now, the Bulls would first play the Pacers then the loser of the Knicks and the Celts. If we assume the Bulls has a 45% chance to win either game, then winning both is at a 20.25% chance.
Taken together, I thus estimate that the Bulls pick would convey at a 20.25% + 68.68% = 88.93% . And that would either be at the #15-selection or the #10-selection, with respective odds shown. (( the 10th pick would slide if a team worse than Chicago goes top-4 in the lottery )).
(( 68.68% is the probability the Bulls pick is not the 15th pick - but does convey as the 10th selection. This is 86.12% * 79.75%. ))
The 79.75% is the probability of Chicago missing the playoffs; i.e. not winning two play-in games.

If Embiid, Simmons, Harris, Thybulle, Dwight & Green miss that game, than this OKC team got maybe a 50/50 chance to win

If the Bucks rest all the starters, we'll likely win tomorrow.

The amount of tanking going on is just crazy. Some of these teams have literally g-league players playing major minutes while starters are not even suited up.

&& this is despite the new lottery odds which without a doubt reduce the incentive to tank. All you have to do is look at the results from the previous 2 drafts or go over to tankathon, sim a few times, && see how often we, even with the 4th best odds, finish with the 6th-8th pick in the draft.
That's why I'm personally not too excited about high odds one way or the other. I'd like to have the best odds, to ensure a top 5 pick, but that doesn't seem likely at all at this point.
