The biggest acquisition of the Orlando Magic’s 2016 offseason indicated on Monday that he has no plans to go elsewhere when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2017.

“I’m looking to stay here to play forever — for [as] many, many years as possible,” Serge Ibaka said during the Magic’s media day.

I could be wrong, but usually players in his position don't say stuff like that this quick. Maybe if they're on a contender or they've had some time to gel with teammates with some games under their belt, but this soon on an unproven team? Interesting... hope he's being genuine!

Its still a legitimate concern that people have the right to express. Ibaka saying the right things during media day doesn't change anything for me. Until he puts pen to paper he's just a one year rental.

Of course In a perfect world every team would want to be fast without giving up size but that's just not always possible. Fortunately I feel like we can match up going big or small when needed.

I think Ibaka/Biz/AG at the 3/4/5 is as quick as it can get really. I don't see a need to switch to a lineup of AG, Jeff Green and Mario just to be smaller. That's more my point. That we have some uniquely tall and mobile/fast guys who will allow us to stay big when we need to go fast.

Again it's not about about size. It is about getting more shooting on the floor when we need it.

At the end of the day..... It's good that we have BOTH options. There are benefits to both... perimeter shooting.... and straight out muscling teams. THAT to me is the greatest thing about this team. I don't think we will have set rotations on a nightly basis as the team will adapt nightly to each opponent.

The possibility that should only be considered PRESUMING extreme negligence and ineptitude of management. Instead, it has generally been thrown about to PROPOSE extreme negligence and ineptitude of management by those who lean that way.

All indications have always been that Serge and Rob have a longstanding relationship that made for a high comfort level trading for him. Expressing this "concern" seems a bit peevish at best, and seems to reflect other postures much more so than the actual possibility of Serge leaving.

A MUCH more likely scenario is that Ibaka becomes a lead-by-example cornerstone of the club in his first year, cooperatively sits on his cap hold before getting paid, and helps to recruit while the Magic go after another big free agent next Summer. These are things that would help us as a team, would be consistent with management being at least reasonable at their jobs, AND are more likely to actually occur.

So as a FAN, that's what I'm expressing!

Of course the possibility he'll leave is a legitimate concern... but I would rather hear stuff like this earlier than expected than the more concerning "I'm not thinking about next year, I'm focused on this year" that we typically hear from players in similar positions who end up leaving. If things go bad I'll expect him to leave... if things go well stuff like this makes me think he's more likely to stay.

Josh Robbins is reporting that Elf strained his left hip flexer during practice and had to sit out the final 40 minutes. Hopefully it's nothing serious

Elfrid Payton strained his left hip flexor during the practice, Frank Vogel said. Payton sat out the final 40 minutes.

Here we go....

Depending on the severity, this is a one to eight week injury. Hopefully it's a minor one.

With appropriate management, patients with a minor hip flexor strain can usually recover in one to three weeks. With larger tears, recovery may take four to eight weeks or longer depending on the severity. Complete ruptures of the hip flexor muscles are rare and are usually managed conservatively.

Our starting PG going down would not be a good way to start the season, especially with all the new players and coaches. Hope he's able to return for preseason. At least we got a couple backup options to roll with...

At least the other starters can get used to having a PG who can actually space the floor. Gordon slashing to the basket and either kicking it out or scoring himself can do a lot of damage if he has 4 shooters next to him in the starting lineup.

please let it be that they are being cautious. AG and EP are the ones we want to see the most and this just sucks. I guess we have waited in agony for the summer so a few more weeks isn't long.

but still.....

Thankfully it is not the season.

The Magic need everyone healthy though.

On another note, I really worry abkout the offense if Gordon/Ibaka and Biz are out there together.

Practice Notes:

The reporters got scared when Uncle Frank raised his voice and needed to check in with all the kids to make sure they were ok. :banghead:

Biyombo appears to be a bit of a leader. Pushing guys and lighting a fire. Could be an important signing for us on first look.

Watching the videos from post practice and the reporters asked every player how they felt when Frank got vocal when they failed a drill. Then they asked Frank. Just seems so amateur of them to ask about stuff like that.
