Also sort of big news that MCW was in the top 10 most popular picks and got into the green room. Numerous GMs have him as #1 PG over Burke.

It was a freak accident. The doctor said his knees are fantastic, no other damage other than that ACL tear. In fact, the knees were so good, they began rehab early and he's ahead of schedule. The gamble is only as expensive as the best alternative, if there are no great alternatives in this draft, the cost of gambling on Noel is smaller. It doesn't appear this is a Oden/Durant thing, there is no standout guy, let alone 2 or 3.
All I see are elite level role players at the top of this draft. If there's a superstar in there somewhere, he's gonna come out of nowhere.
I agree there are no superstars but I do think there are a couple guys who can be borderline all stars , Burke and McLemore . Whether you wanna call it "injury prone" or "accident prone" is semantics . He will be injured alot . Remember doctors said Grant Hill would be fine too .

Another one of those low opportunity cost guys. His size is incredibly tempting. He is a major work in progress, but what's the cost of gambling on him in this draft? It doesn't appear there is much separation between him, Burke, and the other PGs and MCW is the one with the physical size. I'm 50/50, I like Burke alot and know more about him, don't know much about MCW other than what I've seen on scouting videos.

No love for Larkin?

Personally I don't see any PGs from this class ever making an allstar game, if they do it will be more like Mo williams and Jameer nelson type appearances, players nobody thinks of as "all star pgs"

On another note i don't care what the numbers say Mclemore is not a good defender maybe i haven't seen enough games but in the 5 or 6 that i've watched to my eye test he's quite lethargic on that end of the floor but he has potential there imo, he's going to have to shore up some things. Constantly losing his man cause he wants to roam around, slow on close outs, too many blow bys for someone with his athletic capabilities. He has a TON to work on on defense but he's young and maybe he can improve on that end unless the rumor about him having a questionable work ethic is true
I think the package would work if CJ McCollum was available at 9, but i doubt he will be

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. LV - NBA Draft Edition)
Larkin is OK, but the size thing worries me despite his hops. Fast, strong, terrible assist to turnover ratio. Not sure he'll ever be more than a backup. His ceiling might be starter on one of the bottom dwellers of the the league.
@MagicFan32 Very much true about McCollum or someone else Henny has his eye on. Might be a deal that is struck after the 8th pick or something like that. Will be interesting if we pick Oladipo, I wouldn't be too sure he'll be on our team by the end of the night.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. LV - NBA Draft Edition)
i can see McCollum easily being better than oladipo or mclemore, everyone should watch his interview with simmons and rose. he is clearly someone who takes the cerebral part of the game very seriously

But at Kentucky he never had to guard 4s like Lebron, Carmelo, Durant, Green, Galo, Dirk, ext. I feel like he is stuck playing center most of the time due to match up problems but im not sure. If this was the 90's NBA where PF's were generally big bangers then i think he would be okay but in todays NBA im afraid he would get beat off the dribble at the 4 too often.
Have you not watched any of his games? That's like the opposite of real life.... He is fast enough to guard NBA 3's let a lone 4s lol. He is also more in position at 4 because most 5s are bangers and he isn't the "ideal" weight to bang with nba centers.
Him at the 4 on our team works perfect imo
Old school +1, not my pick for Orlando but it has more to do with his build/injury/lack of offensive game than anything else. Difference between him and theo Ratliff is his versatility on defense.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. LV - NBA Draft Edition)
then the numbers surrounding Burke shouldn't matter either. You can't dismiss statistical facts of a player just because you don't like him then turn around and it be your end all argument towards the player you like. That's hypocritical.MagicFan32 wrote:Bobby Ray wrote:Got this from Hoop RumorsThe Timberwolves reportedly believe Derrick Williams and the No. 9 pick could allow them to land a top-three selection next week. That's the way I took it. I just can't see him not being the first pick if the doctors are saying he's fine. The point about risk reward in this draft seems like a logical one in this case. If Cleveland doesn't take him we probably will. If Noel is healthy I will voo doo doll the cavs into taking Len. If he's there you give him the whole damn year to rehab and roll the dice.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. LV - NBA Draft Edition)
The more I think about this draft the more I realize I won't be upset with any pick the Magic make, I guess because there just aren't that many clear cut players at the top. All we can do is hope for the best.
This is honestly the first draft that I've felt that way. I used to get crazy about who the Magic would or wouldn't pick. I remember being frustrated when we didn't pick Danny Granger. or when we picked Vasquez and just shouting "WHO?!"
But now when we pick unless it's a name I've never even heard before I'll just nod and say, "ok, let's see what this guy can do."

I thought the same exact thing. He smiled big when heard Charlottte was out of the top 3. And when they called out Orlando he had a huge grin on his face. Then, when they announced Cavs had first pick, he had a "Yeah, alright" look on his face.
Maybe I'm looking into this too much.

Exactly. The way I look at it is that you're taking a gamble on everyone. Yes, you might have a guy at 5, 10, 15 or 25 that becomes a superstar at random, but right now, no way to predict. Noel is the type of player that is the rarest of the bunch, so you have to go with him if he's checked out by doctors.
defensive player with serious offensive deficiencies. Why is that so rare?
