the absolute dumbest thing ORL could do would be to exercise his option and pay him $11m largely to rehab and ramp up and then watch him become a UFA next summer when more teams have money to burn. This is absolutely the time to negotiate a multi-year deal and take losing him off the table as something to worry about.

But, he has to be realistic as it relates to his leverage or lack of...the second-best choice would be to say goodbye if a favorable deal can't be made.

I think we have the loyalty/family track and the bird rights to get him extended before that summer of cap space. So like if we don't extend now, maybe take the TO and then get the extension done before the mid-season and his injury return? I view the TO as a good move because in my opinion, he is worth more than 11 mil per year. He just needs the right team with defensive pieces, so he might not command more than 11 mil on certain other teams.

I agree though, it seems muchhhh better to negotiate the extension right now. Even an ascending deal for Mo is better for the Magic here, something like 9 mil in injury year, 11 mi, 13 mil, 15 mil, 17 mil TO.

Jase and Tyus can’t be on the floor at the same time. Which I guess isn’t a big deal given one is a backup and the other is 3rd string.

What does the guard lineup look like if Suggs misses 15 games?

Tyus started next to Bane when Ja was out and Memphis kept on tickin'. He'd be a great part-time starter for the money we're talking about.

I like NAW and Jerome to a lesser extent.

I would be ok with Tyus if it also made it possible to keep Moe.

NAW would be a monster 3 and D player for us but pretty sure he is going to get paid more than we can afford.

Tyus gives us shooting, play making and low turnovers.

I think a lot of this comes down to money. Also number of seasons may be a factor.

If Suggs gets hurt, I would move Tyus into the SL next to Bane and slide Jase into the rotation next to Black.

I like Jase a lot, but he's not even 20 years old yet. I don't think we need to be too concerned with how he fits into the rotation *this* season yet.

Tyus at Tax payer MLE is pretty attractive.

Have no interest in Ty Jerome. Rather have Dennis Schroder

Black has 6'8 wingspan, Suggs 6'6, Richardson 6'6, Howard 6'9.
LAST thing we need is a guard with wingspan. We need guards with skill who can run offense and shoot. NAW can shoot but he scored exactly as many points last season as......... Anthony Black

Schroder shots 0.342 3pt% in his career (0.302 last season); while Jerome shots 0.381 3pt% in his career (0.439 last season)

Are you sure?

I agree? Do we even need him tho? I don’t think he is a table setter than everyone is longing for anyway.

Howard didn't measure.

6'6" isn't big for a guard.

Still our problem is not lack of defense and wingspan. NAW gives us nothing new and nothing we need. Better to use this money on actual veteran PG or center.

I don't they sign another short armed guard. They need a SG/SF which none of our guards are. NAW can play PG/SG/SF.

They may end up costing about the same per year. Jerome will probably get a longer contract though.

NAW is now that strong and heavy. If we want to have someone to defend sg/sf Gary Harris will be a lot cheaper and he is heavier, TDS is heavier, Howard is taller and heavier. Even Bane who we just get is more suited to defend up.
I see no role which we lack and NAW can fill it.

Franchise
Paolo, Franz

Studs
Bane, Suggs, AB

Quality
WCJ, Goga, JI, Moe

Wildcards
TDS, Jett, Jase, Penda

Wing-hub foundation built around elite forward play, supported by a strong, versatile guard rotation and reliable bigs. Several intriguing wildcards round out the roster with real upside to develop. Not bad, really.

Orlando has lost Caldwell-Pope, Harris, Anthony, Joseph, and gained Bane, Richardson, and Penda.

One for one this would be:

Bane > Caldwell-Pope
Richardson < Joseph (but still a good move for the future)
Penda < Harris (but still a good move for the future)

And clearly the Magic needs a backup SG, so presumably Mr-Wonderful > Anthony.

If the Magic can restructure M-Wagner and Houstan to get a Gary Trent/Luke Kennard/Tim Hardaway/Amir Coffey/Garrison Mathews type player, this is a great offseason.

I agree with your list, almost. If Howard is a wildcard, than so is Houstan. In that: maybe one of these two will develop in quality to be a deep-bench player. Right now, neither justifies a NBA roster slot.

Sill: looking at Franchise, Studs, and Quality: Orlando looks like a contender to me!

I'm ready!
