I assume it would be a central venue tournament with all the teams playing in Florida - I guess it depends on whether other states follow suit

The NBA isn't going to allow for state tournaments. Trump kind of painted himself into a corner by saying states need to decide what's best for them. Funny, it was to allow red states to continue to operate but now it's going to allow blue states to remain shut down. It'll be interesting to see how this all works out.

If only we had a document that clearly explains all of this, and is already written down somewhere. :D

Did you post any predictions on death numbers in the past couple weeks by any chance?? Would love to see how they compare to what the Dr’s expect to be 60k in August. I remember a lot of the same tds people in here talking about hundreds of thousands.

Except the President and his white house stated those same numbers two weeks ago...

He did that as a full under promise over deliver tactic. Can’t blame them for that tbh.
I am talking about the people in here with the moving goalposts. The ones that were claiming. Under end of thousands into the million of deaths. That no longer the case so let’s harp on the beginnings, or his rhetoric.

Your blind comments are sad and troubling.

When models were projecting over 100k deaths only a major cities had issued shelter-in-place and few states were taking making wide steps. Meanwhile, we still had a leader in White House yet to believe this was even an issue to worry about. “It will soon fade away” he told us.

Look at the DRASTIC steps taken across the entire country since that time. Still, more than half a million people are confirmed to have had it and over 25,000 people have died. We know both of those are are lower than accurate due to a lack of tests, homeless population access and so on.

So what is the story here?

- social distancing is working

- but we started late

- therefore, it is fair to criticize our leaders (not just Trump) who both started this plan late and want to end them early

We're on course for the worst death rate in Europe and the in the briefing yesterday they literally said 'the plan is working'.

I would recommend watching Macron's speech from the weekend for an example of humble, honest leadership in times of national struggle.

The snippet of good news from the UK is that as of last week we now have a capable, electable opposition leader (the only issue is we won't be having an election for a while). I'm not sure that Biden will be that guy in the US but I sincerely hope he is.

It seems to me to just be speeches by leaders to pacify the public or their fan base because France by capita is doing worse than England and about on par with USA.

It's about honesty and being candid and actually giving a ratass about what's going on. Yes, France like a lot of countries are in a piss poor condition but it's about HOW you react to it.

Seriously, if you're jobless lack the funds and are wondering how much longer this will last. The last thing you want your leader doing is feuding with the press at a press conference in the middle of a pandemic.

It's shows he doesn't care about anyone but himself. You think about the situation he spent his entire weekend watching the news about what was being said about him rather than trying to get Intel on the virus and it's impact on the people. It was solidified with how the briefing led off with the Doctor clarifying his statements from Sunday and how that video package of "fake news" came about in the middle of it.

Its obvious if this is happening during a crisis like this... What actual work has he actually done being the president throughout his tenure? It's really sad and scary to think about.

I am talking long after the 14 and then 30 day stay at home restrictions were announced. The fear mongering never stopped.

I don’t recall people here talking about “millions of deaths” 30 days after shelter in place went into effect. If that is so then yes, I agree.

At some point we are going to have to get back to having fans at games if we want to crown a true champion for 2020. Nobody is getting crowned the 2020 NBA champions if they can't go on the road in front of 20,000 hostile fans on the road to beat that team on their home court and also protecting your homecourt when the road team wants to come in to get a win and shut up your home crowd. If they get back to playing games right now without fans, They be best off just playing (pick up games) that are televised. I think they are should start playing NBA games with this (target score) like they did in the 4th quarter of the NBA all star game this year. Pick up games at LA fitness and other places have a target score of 11 or 15 generally and the winner stays on the court. Imagine if pick up games were played by a time clock instead of a target score, it wouldn't be as good.

With the death toll much over 911, is it really fear mongering? Is the press passing a Patriot act? Are we invading two countries because of it? How do you define fear mongering?

How many deaths before it is no longer fear mongering? 100k? 200k?

I feel like your valuing the worth of the economy over the well-being of the population. Imagine that 3 pointer you make, now imagine the grandma and the type 1 diabetic dying because you played that pickup game. It's not fear mongering when the surgeon general of the country says that. Or the surgeon general of Florida.

1. USA went over 10,000 recoveries today!! WO
2. USA probably reaches 600,000 confirmed cases on Tuesday
3. New York probably reaches 200,000 confirmed cases on Tuesday
4. Louisana now has 3 straight days of low increase in new confirmed cases
5. Washington now has 11 straight days of low increase in new confirmed cases
6. Texas now has 2 straight days of low increase in new confirmed cases
7. Connecticut keeps rising in new confirmed cases each day, They are not their peak. Different numbers from bing and worldometers but clearly Connecticut had over 1000 new confirmed cases today.
8. France had a huge jump today with over 40,000 new confirmed cases today that's unacceptable
9. Germany had over 4000 recoveries today
10. Why does BING still show Florida with 0 recoveries? We have had plenty of people that recovered by now

Today's numbers as of 9pm from bing.com/covid

USA-612,380 confirmed cases(+22,028 confirmed cases), Recoveries- 48,036(+4443 increase), Deaths- 29,768(+6191 increase)
New York- 202,630 confirmed cases(+4071 increase), Recoveries- 26,999(+3112 increase)

France- 143,303 confirmed cases(+5437 increase), Recoveries- 28,805(+1087 increase)
Germany- 49,267 active cases, Recoveries- 79,751(+22,492 increase)
United Kingdom- 93,873 confirmed cases(+5252 increase), (Newly tracked UK because they are approaching 100,000 confirmed cases)

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

USA- 613,886 confirmed cases, Recoveries- 38,820, Deaths- 26,047
New York- +7468 increase in confirmed cases
New Jersey- +4240 increase in confirmed cases
Mass- +1296 increase in confirmed cases
Michigan- +1366 increase in confirmed cases
California- +1338 increase in confirmed cases
Penn- +1173 increase in confirmed cases
Illinois- +1222 increase in confirmed cases
Florida- +609 increase in confirmed cases
Louisana- +502 increase in confirmed cases
Texas- +736 increase in confirmed cases
Georgia- +957 increase in confirmed cases
Connecticut- +608 increase in confirmed cases
Washington- +92 increase in confirmed cases

1. Bing shows Florida over 1000 new confirmed cases today but worldometers shows Florida with 609 increase. If worldometers is correct, This would be the 1st full day of Florida being under 1000 new cases in a day. On Wednesday at the end of the day, I want to see both worldometers and bing both consistent and have their reported number under 1000. We can't have 1 site show +609 increase and the other site show +1027 increase.

2- USA over 4000+ recoveries today great job. 4000 recoveries per day for the USA is a goal we want to shoot for every day.
3. Germany over 22,000 recoveries today OMG how did they get that big of a number
4. New Jersey- I don't see them slowing down yet, could that state reach 100,000 confirmed cases in the next 6 to 7 days?
5. Both bing and worldometers have Lousiana with the same exact number of +502 increase in new confirmed cases today. Lousiana is now 4 straight days of low increase in new confirmed cases
6. Washington is now 12 straight days of low increase in new confirmed cases, They are approaching 2 full weeks.
7. Texas now has 3 straight days of low increase in new confirmed cases.
8. Maryland- Newly tracked because they are approaching 10,000 confirmed cases which will happen Wednesday or Thursday. If Maryland has an increase of +532 which they had today, They hit 10,000 confirmed cases on Wednesday.

Rachel maddow just said over 29000 deaths in the United states. Maybe BNO is correct.

How many deaths before it is no longer fear mongering? 100k? 200k?

I am talking long after the 14 and then 30 day stay at home restrictions were announced. The fear mongering never stopped.

Easy answer. When it passes the total deaths from 2017 flu.

Why is that an easy answer? You said nothing of 911 and it's impact on our society but mentioned a flu season that had no shutdowns. But we are halfway there. 60k for 2017 flu season according to Wikipedia, in the United States. So far we are at 26k deaths from covid19. Why not mention the death toll in relation to other disasters? The flu season isn't a disaster and consists of 3+strains of virus'. It's not even a fair comparison.

This compared to 9/11 is apples and oranges, hence why I compared it to a recent flu season where zero alarm was raised. I am all for social distancing and what we are doing because this seems to be more contagious and deadly than the typical flu, mostly because we do not yet have a vaccine.
The fear mongering and constant unnecessary blame is what I have the issue with. Where we are today vs where most in here claimed we would be are far apart so far.

Because the social distancing is working.

The CDC predicted that we would see 2-4 million deaths in the country within the year if we did nothing.

Over the course of 2 weeks, we were able to reduce those damning mortality projections from 100-200k deaths, to 68k deaths today.

The social distancing is saving lives. We could have saved more lives by starting sooner. We can still bend that curve in our favor from here on. And the last thing to do is hastily reopen the country and allow a rebound in spread.

Those totals are way off. New York had 778 deaths yesterday for a New York total of 10,834

I am sure the millions in this country who may be losing their house or business are not chilling at the poolside all day.
