I'm visiting family in Germany. I'll likely be sleeping during the draft. So I'll be right there with you! But it would be fun to take information as it comes in and update expectations...SOUL wrote:I'm considering going dark the entire draft.. doing something else.. come back.. see what chaos has ensued..

I'm not sure if there's rules against sharing these kinda links or not forgive me if there is, but the /r/orlandomagic discord is pretty good sized and are hosting a draft night event doing exactly what you described, which they've done the last few years as well. https://discord.gg/RxNATJF5

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread 4
I've reached the point where i know who i don't want with our 2 picks, just not sure i know yet who i do want.
I'd prefer one or both were used for a consolidation trade.
Who i dont want:
Whitmore
Hendricks
Dick
Lively
Meh on:
Coulibaly
George
Wallace
Smith Jr.
Whitehead
Can get on board with any of:
Amen
Ausar
Walker
Bufkin
JHS
Black
Hawkins

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread 4
Thinking back to the star, starter, role player, bust thought project, really fascinating how the average distribution is 4/3/4/3.
This implies that at No. 6 you can expect to add a starter and at No. 11 you can expect to add a role player.
Very much an oversimplified view, but like any model it has some interesting implications.
A draft is a complex system that doesn't lend itself to an exact science. So much missing and imperfect information resulting in stars, starters, and role players falling outside the lottery. At a certain point fit makes all the difference.

He's only 18, so you would be drafting him based on potential. He's 4 months older than Giannis when he was drafted.pepe1991 wrote:I find it funny how NOBODY wants to report how Culibaly did against Euroleague team of Monaco in French finals. Where they got swept.

he turns 19 in a month. He is same age as Killian Hayes was ( tehniqually, one day older) when he was drafted.
you want more than potential from top 10 pick. Especially since league they play isn't very good.

would be a shocker draft lol, but at least its something different
There’s a lot of logic to this draft (love it for us)…quite a few winners here, based on fit, imo

Player 1:
8 ppg, 52% 2pt, 30.7% 3pt on 2.5 attempts per game,72.6 ft%, 3.7 agp
Player 2:
12.8 ppg, 51.3% 2pt, 30.1% 3pt on 2.6 attempts per game, 70.5 ft%, 3.9 apg
Player 1 is Jrue Holiday. Player 2 Anthony Black.
If Anthony Black is Holiday, I’m on board.
8 ppg, 52% 2pt, 30.7% 3pt on 2.5 attempts per game,72.6 ft%, 3.7 agp
12.8 ppg, 51.3% 2pt, 30.1% 3pt on 2.6 attempts per game, 70.5 ft%, 3.9 apg
11.7ppg 51.4% 2pt, 34.6% 3pt on 4 attempts per game, 75.7% FT% 4.3 assts
Player3 is Cason Wallace... they are all pretty similar statistically, Cason 6'2.5" Jrue 6'3", Black 6'6"
Cason also has under utilized Kentucky guard going for him.
I think they can play together. If Wallace pans out, we may have the best two guard defendending combo in the league...or better yet, stack their minutes and get relentless pressure on the lead ball handler of opponents for 48 minutes a game.
I am not sure i could take Wallace at 6 anymore...but if we are not going to use the 2nd rounder maybe we could use it to move from 11 to 8. Washington needs more rolls of the dice.
I think the advantage that Franz and Paolo gives this Magic team is that we won't need a lead guard that has the ball in their hands 75% of the possession, frankly we can get buy with a Jrue Holiday or Cason Wallace type of PG.

Fascinating.
Taylor Hendricks, Walker, Lively being the surprise in this metric but not really knowing what all that means anyway I won't worry much about it.
The idea of us drafting some kind of F/C is starting to shape in my head. Maybe even Walker at 6.
No I am not saying what I want, trying to guess management best on the interview yesterday.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread 4
I will be so happy when we are back into the playoffs and don’t have to pay too much attention to the draft. This happens not so much here but still it is prevalent on other mediums and I am maybe guilty of it. But the people who are saying this guy or bust who I know have not really done their homework are getting on my nerves. They maybe watched half of a 6 minute video of the prospect and they are now an expert and if the magic don’t agree and take someone else they will fire off some passive aggressive tweet.
From my perspective I really try to educate myself on the positives and weakness of players. I also make sure I never get high on one guy especially where we are drafting because I am for sure not a draft expert. I have watched some full Ohio state games and that is the limited time I have spent while our scouting team is on this for years really. If they pick Coulibaly I am not going to tell them they are wrong because I haven’t watched any full Met 92 games. This doesn’t say you can’t be critical of decision but damn just acknowledge that our front office and scouting have put way more effort into this then anyone and drafting is truly a damn crapshoot

Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread 4
Say coulibaly is there at 11, anyone think we could draft him and trade him to the Spurs for vassell?
I'm not a big vassell fan but I know most this board is. Spurs would get wembys teammate to help him adjust in the NBA and also clear Cap space to sign say Austin Reaves and another max player?
Just random thought I had this morning

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread 4
I just hope we have a plan.
I feel it’s time to start consolidating assets.
While I like that idea of say Black/Asur + Dick, I then take a step back and look at a roster of Fultz, Suggs, Cole, Harris and even Franz and say where are the minutes??
It’s time to truly build around Franz and Paolo rather than collect as many assets as we can and see what works.

The easiest way to make it aI’ll work is a Hendricks/Dick draft. Not saying its what I prefer but it would be ‘safe’ and less work for the FO.:
WCJ/JI
Paolo/Hendricks
Franz/Dick
Suggs/Harris
Fultz/Cole
