Re: Official Spec Thread: Preseason
Is it bad that I am already thinking of taking a break from the board? We have Chet>Paolo takes, Black and Jett are busts takes, and front office are garbage takes. All before even one regular season game has been played. I just want to enjoy the most hopeful magic season in like 12 years…
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

if he doesn’t have injury problem he has a higher ceiling than Paolo !
His defensive instincts , size and offensive game are a lot further a long than I realized . Paolo on offense needs isolation and his defense is not great (especially team defense ) . I like Paolo but watching Chet play has got me thinking the magic may have made the wrong pick .
Eh no. Can you imagine a scenario where Chet is/was the primary offensive option? As I kept saying, we ( Magic ) have been dreaming of a guy that we can dump the ball to and expect offensive things to happen. We got that in Paolo.
I want no part over this debate

Smith's jumper has looked really good this preseason, also. In the end, the top-3 picks looks to be great PFs in the NBA. I think histery will show that none of these three is really superior to the other two. If we then ask which PF is more compatible with F-Wagner, I think it is clearly Banchero.

Re: Official Spec Thread: Preseason
Wouldn’t swap Paolo for Chet or Jabari. Period. That’s an irrational take.
But even though you may not agree, discussing the merits (or lack thereof) of our two lottery picks is exactly what you should expect. And most of the people who are critical now were critical when the picks were made, so this isn’t fans turning on these guys 3-4 preseason games in. Things will get worse if these guys struggle in the beginning and the players we passed over to take them look really good right out of the gate.
This is an oddly-constructed roster, and we had assets to improve the weaker areas via FA or trade, and we did nothing to that end other than signing Jingles.
And since everyone seems to be in agreement that our picks are raw works in progress, I’m not seeing a path to meaningful minutes for either of them unless we are a far cry from playoff contention around mid-season.
It feels to me, yet again, our FO doesn’t have any idea whether to cash in some chips and win now, and we’re right in the meaty part of the curve that could grab a low lotto pick or a play-in / 1st round playoff exit. Like the Vuc/Gordon/Fornier/Augustin/Ross group.

Re: Official Spec Thread: Preseason
The weird thing is people watch the games, like the starting lineup, feel the bench is good, then every discussion postgame is how we need to make trades and the roster is imbalanced because the rookies aren't playing a lot of minutes.
There seems to be a lack of correlation between the two. Sure, we need a backup C but also if we're arguing about the merits of not trading our lotto pick(s) for a backup big, that's a luxury to have.
We could use more shooting, yet the only person most agree has no future here or is the most expendable is Gary Harris... so also seems like a weird conversation.
Ideally obviously we end up with a great shooting PG if Fultz never gets better there, which I'm not exactly betting on, but again.. these point guards aren't just readily available at any moment for trade. Jrue was always going to go to a contender, Lillard was not coming here, anybody else is just meh.

It’s time to blow it up. Chet and Smith had good games. We need to tank for the future.

It all starts because the Magic will not be able to afford both Fultz and Anthony. Thus, as it is certain one of the two is moving on, it makes sense to package said player with G-Harris, the Denver pick and spare parts for a starting-SG upgrade. (Or explode the PG core to upgrade starting PG).
Many here see Black as a backup PG now (I am not one of those people). And for them, trading Anthony would seem like a no-brainer - I would hope.
The one thing we learnt in these pre-season games is that Orlando\s guard shooting is still poor. That is not fixed by "depth".

It really shouldn't since Houston has improved its roster and added a very good coach but who am I kidding...

Re: Official Spec Thread: Preseason
Wow, ESPN has Orlando 23rd in their future power rankings, which is a look at a team's competitiveness over the next 3 seasons. The biggest weakness in their eyes is management, ranked 26th.
The best teams in the East over the next three seasons are as follows.
Boston
Milwaukee
Miami
New York
Cleveland
Philadelphia
_______________
Atlanta
Indiana
Brooklyn
Orlando
_______________
Toronto
Detroit
Chicago
Charlotte
Washington

Yet, this has been the worst decade in franchise history.
And on this board we survived Darko Miliminutes and lived to tell about it. Oh, Mobley and Franchise bromance too.
I won't say a word about Diener's departure. I was devastated. We've had this coming.
