Playoff experience only means something if you have 2 established young superstars who are like 23,24 yeras old and you want to test them. It can be good for them as playoffs will humble them, especially if somebody whips their a** in first round.

Making playoff push to "teach" Isaac that he can't be dead body who averages 5 ppg or Gordon that he is 1/15th of player Kawhi is, is simply waste of time. Always was.

There is no "culture" in basketball. Playoff basketball is still basketball. There are simply too many roster changes to "teach" anybody anything.

For me it is about installing a mental system so that young players do not crack from the pressure and that vets who have never tasted success learn to appreciate the process.

I'd push back on the no "culture" in basketball claim a bit.

culture is relevant to every aspect of life. humans grow and learn by imitating what they see. that's what's in our nature. every organisation has a consciousness that's preserved beyond the individuals and each generation of players leave something to the newcomers. if this all sounds too abstract or feels a little too hard to observe, just ask the players themselves about how their games and ethics were shaped. they'll always talk about the impact of older and successful people around them.

I did a double take when I first saw that the other day. After thinking on it more and knowing rumors are they are working a multi-deal scenario with Boston for AG and then Evan, I assumed this would be a similar scenario ... just if the big Boston deal doesn’t work.

We trade AG somewhere for a deal which includes multiple late first round picks (Houston??).

Then we trade Evan + one of the Houston picks to SA for Derozen.

So the deal would NOT include an Orlando draft pick.


I don’t want Derozen myself, but since we apparently had discussions it is worth dissecting it.

Why are so many of you hell bent on trading Vooch? We won’t get fair value in return (3 FRP’s and 2 good young prospects), and he isn’t hurting the tank by himself currently. He’s worked well with Markelle and JI, and at 30 years old had his best pro season thus far, meaning his game will age well. He won’t always be the first option, but he should be good to great for another 5-6 years. Not saying he has to spend them all here, but the point is we have time to move him. Until then let him be somewhat of a steadying presence in what figures to be a tumultuous few months if we trade Evan and AG.

I’m definitely on the tank plan this year but to say playing in the playoffs only matter to young superstars is ridiculous.

Playoff games are a higher pressure more competitive environment that alone will help any players involved better by experiencing it. Possessions are valued more, defense tighten up (Ask Fournier and Pre 2020 playoff Vuc if it’s harder to score in the playoffs).

It’s probably better to tank and then go to the playoffs a couple years with young players opposed to our method of going to playoffs and then tanking with young (injured guys) but we are the Magic so we do everything Ass Backwards haha.

I also think culture matters you can’t have too many dirtbags on your team or a team filled with a bunch of career losers who pick up bad habits over the years of playing less meaningful games.

These things may be overrated by some but they definitely matter !
