If Hennigan didnt take the Nets trade last month, why on earth would you think he would in February? Other trades would be out there because in the end its Dwight Howard we would be trading.
why do people believe this? for any team other than the Nets, they are not going to offer any great package, because they would only be getting Dwight for 2-3 months, and then possibly losing him. No one is going to take on multiple bad contracts and give up a good player or picks for a 2 month rental, it isnt going to happen. The Nets are the only team that fully believe they can give up anything they have to for Dwight, because they absolutely believe he will resign with them in the offseason. No one else has that guarantee.
If the Magic do not trade Dwight, the offers will continue to get worse if not completely dry up. IMO, if he isnt traded before the season starts, we will either see him walk or traded to Brooklyn. not what i want, just what i can see happening.
I think hate for howard has fogged up some people's judgement.
i like to throw out hypotheticals, so...
What if OKC were trading Durant at this deadline or Chicago trading Rose? Do you still feel the same way? I know the magic would give up every pick and player outside of dwight for either and so would other teams.
Boil it down and you'll see that the deals will still be there, maybe worse maybe better, but they will be there. And to be honest i truly feel that the deals will get better and teams that have yet to be included in trade rumors will surface because adding howard would make them title contenders.
All assuming Howard is healthy and still wants out, but if he is still in a magic uniform after the trade deadline then our chances of keeping him become much greater.
let paid professionals do their job, don't you try and do it for them...

LOL
Jameer's contract is not that bad. We're going to be awful for at least two years. We need a veteran leader of some kind on this team.
After two years, his contract becomes non-guaranteed and he can easily be traded.
Who were we supposed to sign other than Jameer, anyway? It's not like we the cap space to sign big time free agents right now.

Said it before, say it again, - cap floor. If we start shedding guys like J-Rich, BBD or Hedo alongside the $19.5m Dwight is owed in a trade, and repopulating our roster with guys on rookie deals (which seems to be what Henny wants) having a guy like Jameer who is overpaid is going to be a necessity just to reach the NBA's minimum salary spend. And he's deal doesn't seem to be that bad, in that yes, he's overpaid, but at least it's short (3 years, and you just know Otis would have been thinking four or five), and the last year is only partially guaranteed.

Your wasting your time, Tide. Wait until Dwhiner takes this franchise for a ride and then maybe some eyes will be opened. But I doubt it.
THAT'LL BE THE DAY!

Steve Kyler
On Dwight Howard and the Magic meeting this week...
The Magic do not have a trade involving Dwight Howard they will do... they have tried ever angle and whats possible to do is not a good deal for the Magic. You may not agree, but that's how they see it.
There is still a sense that something can be resolved with Dwight... not sure there really is... but whats the harm in talking, especially when Rob Hennigan does not have a relationship with Dwight.
Not sure Dwight is going to play this any differently than he has... but again, whats the harm in talking and sharing ideas.
I also think there is some substance to testing the idea of Dwight coming to camp. How does he respond to that, whats the general feel. Can it work? How do you know until you talk to him and see where his head is at.

By that logic neither Turks nor Doodoos contract are that bad and yet we are still desperately trying to get rid of them.

The difference is that Turk and Duhon are awful basketball players. Jameer is still good.

Well, there is a reason why Hedo and Duhon were the more commonly mentioned names in trade scenarios for Dwight last season, while J-Rich tends to be the name coming up this year. Having not managed to dump Hedo or Duhon, it's a lot easier to stomach one more year of them if necessary and then cut them and reap what partial-guarantee savings are available. Twelve months ago those two were vomit inducing. Two years ago they were aneurysm inducing. Now they just bring on mild nausea.

Those contracts were acquired at a time we were trying to be competitive.
Otis is completely to blame with Duhon, and partially for Turk (as he got that contract from Toronto).

Agreed.
We'd get them even if he only got 4-5.
Wed get them if jameer puts up a triple double in loss. They'd find something.
Jameers eye flutter good pgs don't have eye flutters..trade him now!

I think its also safe to say that if Dwight absolutely plays the jerk-card this week, then there may be no recourse but to trade him for what they can get.
I am also not sold that this is not ownership driven... one last ditch conversation before pulling the trigger on something. I also think that the Magic can play the Siberia card... if we can't find a way to make it work here we have to trade to the worst situation we can find.
I am not sure a conversation is going to change the situation, but what if it does?... what if Dwight says 'I want to play out my deal in Orlando' rather than be a Laker or a Rocket or whatever.
I don;t think being deliberate is a bad thing, especially when what you can trade him for does not make your team better in ways you want to improve.

If Henny's plan all along was to coax Dwight into staying long term than you have to admire his ambition this quick into the job. He makes these teams move their whole roster around for weeks then he's like "**** these lowball offers, i'd rather just keep him".
Henny trolling again

Exactly. And from what I've gathered, Rob is aiming for 2014 cap space.
