I recorded the draft and am watching it now and you could see Suggs say "shiiiiit" as he was walking up the ramp.

Highest rated guard that we have drafted since Penny. I couldn't be happier with this pick. He has the potential to be the best player in this draft.

LOL..
The regular me thinks maybe he really is just genuinely happy. When you are about to cash in on those millions you can feel pretty generous to your friends doing the same.
The spiteful me would probably think, based on the reports that he sucks /tanked his TOR workout, that he was happy his plan worked and he is coming to ORL where we only have 1 true PG who is currently injured.

Welcome Jalen!
I quietly picked you in 2k21 months ago, and you've been a star there THE WHOLE FREAKING TIME!
lol
He gave a enthusiastic press conference, that made me say "Let's Go!" to myself. I can't wait to see this young core grow together.
And I know I'll be in the minority here, but I think this squad of guys is better in the next 2 years, than anything we've had in the last 10! Go Magic!

Re: WELCOME TO ORLANDO JALEN SUGGS!!!!
I can't believe we got Suggs!! Wow, beyond all hope for this draft. First player in a while where you don't have to look too hard and convince yourself they could be a superstar, IT'S there.
In terms of all the questions about how our crop of younger Guards works out, to me Suggs is an obvious Alpha. He NEEDS to be given the keys and role as primary ball handler / PG. With Fultz out for basically most of this year, he'll be given the chance.
Just looking at personalities, vibe and skills, I could really see a starting backcourt of Suggs / Hampton with Cole taking on the T Ross esque 6th man spark plug.
I just don't know how Fultz will fit UNLESS that outside shot comes back. If it does, wow, two headed monster backcourt. But that's a very big if and more and more unlikely the longer we wait.

Ok.. any of you think there is some substance to the "conspiracy" theory that Suggs tanked his workout with the Raps because he didn't wanna go to Canada?

I highly doubt it. Even if he wanted to come here, I don’t think he would purposely have a bad workout. Maybe his attitude/energy wasn’t great on purpose but I doubt he did anything more than that.
There is no doubt that Barnes has a different energy level from Suggs and Toronto could have been comparing the two (whoever ‘leaked’ that info).

Isaac sighting at 14:24. Mosely seemed happy to see him show up.

Re: WELCOME TO ORLANDO JALEN SUGGS!!!!
I'm going to be as honest as I can with the pick we made at five. In my mind there were three alpha dog players in the top 5. Three guys who have the ability to take over a game if the team starts to stagnate or the ability to get the troops in line and motivated to push harder. Cade, Green, and Suggs were those guys.
While Suggs wasn't high on my list, I knew that he had no flaws as a player that I could be disgruntled about, and to me that was a surprise in itself. Usually you can find a glaring weakness or something to pick at, but Suggs' one weakness was consistent shooting. He was a good to great defender, a good to great passer, and a good to great scorer all things that point toward a player who at worst will be a solid starter at the NBA level. With a consistent jumper, well, this kid will become an allstar. Mark my words on that.
But lets get to the real elephant in the room, Scottie Barnes. When I did my research...well I kind of just went 'meh'. There is a massive, glaring weakness in Barnes' offensive skill set, and when you really look at his vaunted passing ability you start to realize the truth. This guy is more of a bench big wing than a starting caliber player. I even valued Wagner more than him as I believe Wagner, while no where near athletic has similar IQ, but is already much more offensively talented. Barnes will live and die by his offensive development, if this guy doesn't become a shooter, he will never be anything in this league with the skill set he has right now. The raptors however believed he was special, probably over a workout, and I kind of laugh about that.
There are always players who are great during workouts that turn out to be busts and there are always bad workouts that cause players to slide. In this situation the Magic were benefactors of a bad workout and more than likely have walked out with the superior player. I would hate to be a Raptors fan right now.

Looking ahead, Suggs looked decent playing in a backcourt with Cade in u19. I think he will share a backcourt just fine with any combination of Fultz/Anthony/Rj. He looks comfortable spotting up and shooting to space the floor. When he's not bringing it up for us, he will not be a liability either.

Re: WELCOME TO ORLANDO JALEN SUGGS!!!!
This is my gut feeling with what happened last night when Toronto selected Scottie Barnes. I do believe the Magic thought they had close to 0% chance of Suggs dropping to 5. Assuming that Toronto was going to draft Suggs, rumors/speculation started coming out of the Magic taking Barnes/ The Magic talking up Scottie Barnes. Than Toronto is listening about Barnes going #5 to Orlando and start to get torn between Suggs or Barnes. My believe is they took Barnes because Barnes is bigger and he can play guard and forward(positions 1-4). I don't know what was going on behind the scenes but Orlando probably did a beautiful job PLAYING Toronto to make Toronto BITE on taking Barnes over Suggs.
There are a bunch of lineups I want to see during the season

it could be that or it could be people coming up with a reasonable sounding excuse to calm people down, my friends and family in canada are legit upset....it could happen but honestly i highly doubt suggs had a bad workout....usually high level ball players like him don't have bad workouts where it's 1 on 0....i was fortunate enough growing up a went to a few basketball camps when i was a kid and saw some nba players...i think it was shareef abdur raheem...he talked to us and then did a workout and he put on a display rarely missed...went to another one where chris mullin was there, even as an older former nba player he put on a show....i think he missed 1 shot in his 3-5 minute shooting workout...these are older players out of their primes....so a player like Suggs? i doubt he had a bad workout but i guess it's not impossible, you can have an off night.

I don't think any jedi-mind tricks was going on. Both teams liked Barnes a lot. Orlando, also liked Suggs and was perfectly happy to sit and take whoever Toronto didn't select. Tor may have tried to drive bluff Orl by saying OKC was trading up, but Magic played it cool, extremely happy to take whoever was there. Tor wouldn't risk missing out on Barnes by trading to 6, so they likely tried to engage in trade talk with Jeff and failed. He gave up and just took their player at #4.
I hope Rob was in the cut learning from afar.

I find it hard to believe that a guy would cost himself a that much money (last year patrick williams signed a 4/32 and okoro 4/29). 3 mil even spread out over 4 years is alot of money to an 19 year old.
Also, lets be honest, the raptors are the better run franchise with the better coach (COY 2019-2020) and the team much more likely to compete right now
I highly doubt hes giving all that up just because he doesnt want to move to canada, especially toronto which is essentially the NY of canada. Its not like he was gonna be drafted to play in saskatoon or something. Also, hes from Saint paul Minn, and choose to go to college in Washington, both places basically bordering canada, and not exactly major markets or anything

Exactly, like what could he of really done for it to be a bad workout? Was it an attitude thing? or did he have a bad shooting day (it happens) and all of a sudden hes out at 4?
Eithe way, for whatever reason they passed and i couldnt be happier
I'm thinking Suggs purposely wanted to play alongside his friend/former roommate RJ Hampton. He purposely tanked the workout with Toronto. It still seemed apparent that he got #4 to Toronto so why bother working out the Magic? He probably assumes he'll be great on the Magic and he helped with the Magic talking up Scottie Barnes to get the Raptors want to take Barnes.
