Oh no I don't mean a lack of strength.

I'm wondering if Wagner is going to physically just get too tall (and presumably slow down as he gains weight) of being able to defend SGs and SFs?

Not an easy task for a 6'11" player who weighs 225-230+ to chase guys way smaller and quicker.

Don't think that was a problem for JI and a younger KD but who knows...

He's shorter in this video and he looks like a replica of Gordon Hayward.

Based on highlights Wagner reminds me of Keith Van Horn with better defense.

by the looks of this video, and seeing how much he's grown, I wonder how much he's still learning to play with his new height and weight. Obviously, he's done well to get picked #8, but, could he get significantly better with more comfort in his own body?

Maybe. I know it took Giannis a while to adjust after his growth spurt.

I like how he always seems to get more excited after making a good pass. We should be a better passing team.

Maybe it's just the play style, level of competition, and team but he looked more agile in that video.

Maybe it's time we unleash the beast. I doubt a 19 year old kid got less agile imo. Probably just him hammering away dunks and playing against much better competition in the NCAA, makes it seem that way. Some of those kids looked like they weighted 120 lbs in that video. You put this guy in your local YMCA gym and he probably looks like Lebron on steroids.

Here's Franz scoring 37 in a European league.

Maybe I am just being a typical fan, but the more Franz I watch the more I like this pick.

Franz Wagner is a great pick and the best fit at 8th. At his age, he is 4 months younger than Scottie Barnes, he is to be an elite freshman at a sophomore level in Michigan. At his age level he is far more advance in development than his peers at his age level. he even gained muscles during the draft preparations a good sign of his work ethic. We shall see in Summer league when we starts drooling with our young talent. Go magic!

I know we only like to compare white guys to other white guys, but I saw an analyst who said Wagner’s best comp is a current Magic player. No, not Okeke.

Otto Porter. A healthy Otto Porter is so valuable.

EDIT: and this write up was prior to the draft so it’s not a lazy Magic comp

I've heard at least 3 analysts say he reminded them of Hayward, and they usually say it wasn't because he was white. We've been talking about Franz on here for probably 4 months.

On our team he's closer to Chuma than Porter.

I can see maybe Batum or Tatum a little also.

Silver frames these photos so much better than Stern !

Hayward is 6’7” with a 6’8 wingspan, never really been more than a good defender in the NBA.

Porter is 6’8” with a 7’1 wingspan has been one of the better wing stoppers in the league while also being a relatively low usage guy, and still making smart decisions with the ball and making shots.

I have high expectations for Wagner’s defense. I am not sure how much the Hayward comp fits outside the statistical comps.

If somehow Franz turns into Hayward that would be amazing, but Hayward seems like a far better initiator and Wagner with a much higher defensive ceiling.

I don't even think that him growing up to almost 7 foot would be good for him or Magic. Just look at his brother and there is reason why.

I'm bit confused what position he will even be playing in nba. SF? PF?
He did not show he is good enough shooter for SF tho.

If he develops his shot is young Galinari best comparison? Very tall wing that isn't incapable at playing at perimeter with solid fundamental defense and nice BBIQ?

Against Brasil? Moe played against Brasil - not Franz.

Jesus, that explains why i thought Mo and apparently also Mo looked the same

tnx!

''Franz'' now playing vs Australia at the Olympics, if you wanna scout some more
