I'm guessing he actually is part of the reason they picked PB over JS

There is no chance second round pick impacted who we drafted first.
Its that Jabari skill set is not that unique. Yes he had a great shooting college season, but numbers vary from year to year. As i said before draft, you can get tall shooter much further into the draft. Its different when tall shooter has elite handles and playmaking but thats not Smith ( and thats not Houstan). Its not impossible Houstan is better shooter than Jabari long term. Caleb strength is movement shooting while Jabari strength is pull up shooting. One is easier to showcase in one year in college than other.

I wasn't excited by the pick. I respect that in his first game he played hard and didn't take a play off that I saw. Gimme that kind of energy every game young fella.

That's a bit of a contradiction no? You don't need to take a shooter first if you can get one later in the draft, but it doesn't impact who you choose first?

You can absolutly take shooter first, but only if he has other elite skills. Think Curry or Durant.
We took Paolo becouse he was best prospect not becouse he is not a shooter or becouse we targeted Houstan in the second. He could be long gone. Denver took Watson in this archetype.

Not Houstan related necessarily, but the same logic applies to him and Franz both.

Not yet.

I THINK (my speculation) we are trying to make space for him in the 15-man roster but KDs drama is holding up everything.

I find it odd he is not signed yet. So can you draft a second round pick and never sign them? If they are playing in summer league for you doesn't there have to be some sort of contract for that? I just dont get why he isnt signed or at least not on a 2 way deal that could get converted later once the roster spot clears up.

2nd rounders arent guaranteed to be offered contracts. Thats why they are better picks for draft and stash, because they dont have cap hold. We own his right forever until we trade or let go of his rights.

Seems he missed a lot of the 3s. Still was pretty active.

I keep thinking this guy is like a wing player but standings side by side with Keegan who is going to be a 4, he seems to be the same size

Switchable on defense, great 3 pt stroke. Ideal 3 and D!

He already intrigues me far more than RJ/Okeke and potentially even Cole.

Shooting is coveted, and I think he’s going to be an elite one at the next level. I like players who I can identify having atleast one elite skill. RJ/Okeke/Cole are too average to below average to poor at virtually everything.

I’d be prioritizing getting him minutes next season. He has an interesting pedigree and a real pathway to becoming a role player in this league imo.

Okeke is much stronger and better defender, better passer. If he can get his shooting going (and he is a good shooter) he is a valueable rotation piece. Houstan has more offensvie upside, and he seems more calm and collected. I love Chuma, but Caleb really impressed me even if his shots were not falling in second game.

Okeke would be a very good role player if his 3PT% was consistently 5% higher and he would be one of the best role players in the league if it was consistently 10% higher.

Unfortunately it’s not. So he’s not.

This is a big make or break season for Chuma IMO. He’s flashed nice connector role player skills and now he really needs to have a better shooting season to tie it all together.

I dont think its fair to judge Okeke based on his first two seasons. He was 39% 3 point shooter in college at 229 attempts. He returned after ACL injury shooting 35% his rookie year. Last year he had no offseason becouse of hip injury. He had tough start to the season but became better as season progressed even with his role changing, crappy guards. He even improved his ft to 84%, though on low volume.
I have no doubts he will be at least average shooter. I dont believe its make or break season for him. With his work ethic i am calm he will get better.

There is a real chance the best player in this draft class is Nikola Jović, and for all the reasons you list above.

After watching Caleb through 2 games of great off-ball movement, as well as solid-to-good 3-point shooting, I'm sold on him. I hope the Magic are willing to sign him and allow him the chance to play. He's a better prospect than RJ for example.
